Anyone going to the van gathering in Bend Or?

To clarify, it has strong VW roots, owing to the folks who started the event, but it was never limited on who could attend. Last year there were literally hundreds of non-VW vehicles, everything from skoolies to converted Euro ambulances to truck camper and vans of every stripe. It's part...

Anyone going to the van gathering in Bend Or?

I went last year and had a blast. Just started a new job, so I've got limited vacation so I'm bummed to be missing it!

Propane canister mount to outside of rear door?

Are you dead set on going through the door skin? I don't like the idea of penetrating the body any more than necessary, so I built a lightweight external rack that hangs on the door hinges and then mounted stuff to that. See page 14 of my build thread linked in my signature.

    Action Packer Alternative

These are a good alternative, but one head's up for people trying to compare apples to apples: The label lists capacity as 56qt, and below a capacity of "64,35 litres". 56 quarts is about 53 liters. It seems that Plano has an error on their label printing! The capacity of the "Medium"...

Show me your portable panel stands!

Ok folks, I know there are a bunch of us who use rigid panels, but not bolted to the vehicle all the time. For years, I've had my 60w panel such that I can put it in the sun on a longish cable, but I've never had a stand, or even legs for it - I've just leaned it against a tire, or a stump...

    Solar controller placement

Generally, you want the controller close to the battery being charged, especially when you're actually pushing a lot of current. This is a must if you don't have a remote temp sensor. The controller has the sensor, and adjusts the charge current based on temperature. A large temperature...

    Four Wheel Camper ‘Project M’

The problem there, of course, is physics. To achieve what you're asking means a longer cabover, cantilevered out past the front wall of the bed. That's already a very long lever arm for the forces at work (lets assume a maximum-sized occupant right up against the forward wall of the camper)...

    FS: Sportsmobile 2004 Ford e350 5.4 liter RB50 Ujoint 4x4 with 114k miles…asking 49k

Nominally, it sleeps 4 (2 up, 2 down), but if you need to sleep more than 1 upstairs, I'd ask for a hard measurement on the bed width. It can be done, but I find climbing up into the upper bunk a little harder if there is already someone up there.

Wilco Hitchgate Offset Driver With Extras(SOLD)

Is that a tongue box mounted up on end? Slick. I didn't realize they did a drivers-side swivel version - that's a huge step up for someone who moves back and forth from rear to curb-side frequently (like I do with our van.) Wheels turning...

    Shower floor

Ikea outdoor snap-together flooring. I used a bunch of it as flooring for my Roof Rack, and had a few squares left over - very convenient and comfortable to stand on. Each tile is 12" square, so you can snap together as big a space as you need, then collapse it back to small squares for...

Side mount tilt-up solar panel mounts.

Not so much when under way, but charging while parked is a primary consideration, since I am not always able to park my rig in the driveway where I can keep shore-power attached to keep the batteries happy.

Why don't i see any Thule or Yakima boxes on Overland rigs?

I'm still waiting to find one that is *small*. I can only access such a box from the rear bumper (and a step I've built onto the rear door), so it can't be 5 feet long, else I can't reach the stuff at the front. Preferably, it'd be rear-opening. Fine, several such boxes are made (Yakima...

Looking for custom sized storage basket/bins

I went down a path similar to this. Unfortunately, custom stuff often ends up as prohibitively expensive. I got so far as to talking to a couple of local seamstress/upholsterers and it came down to the fact that they value their time and the construction looked to be fairly labor intensive...

Side mount tilt-up solar panel mounts.

So I spent a lunch break sketching and I've solved all the mounting and security problems, including all the drawings I need to fabricate the necessary mounts for a lightweight mechanism where I can pivot the panel up and also easily remove it for remote use. Overall, I think this is a solid...

Charging Duracell AGM with Victron Smartsolar

I'm wondering if you can confirm your whole profile after this whole discussion? I've just installed the same combo, and want to make sure I treat my battery right.

Side mount tilt-up solar panel mounts.

I really like this, even for my more southern latitudes. I have a poptop roof, so all roof borne weight adds up fast, particularly any mass closer to the front of the vehicle, where the "lever arm" is the longest. I'm looking at upgrading our solar, and modern panels are lighter than what...

Sprinter "144 wheelbase for 4 people?

OP says parking in the driveway. I'm guessing this is an HOA situation, or similar issue with limited street parking. (e.g. my city has new rules requiring permits for >72 hours of parking of street parking for vehicles longer or taller than certain specs.)

    One-burner propane stove?

Another pro-tip for those of you using the folding aluminum windscreens with your single-burners: I epoxied a pair of magnets to mine, so it snaps directly to the frame of the burner. No more problems with it moving around in the wind!
