Trial Run in a Rented Airstream Basecamp

My wife and I have been living, working and traveling full time in our camper for 2 years. Down through Baja, all over the USA, Western Canada, Alaska and to the Arctic Ocean! Currently headed back to Alaska for the summer! Happy to answer any questions!

Best location for outside temperature sensor

Wait so where is it attached now? Our is directly mounted to the outside of our camper and within 1 degree true ambient overnight. You're showing a huge variation, and if you're assuming its the camper causing that, then you're experiencing massive thermal loss in your habitat to affect the...

Power Wagon as a family Exploration Vehicle

They make front bumper cameras, we had one on our PW. Put it on right before we did our Ouray trip, it was a massive help going up some of those inclines and instead of staring straight into the sky I was able to see right at the ground!

Best location for outside temperature sensor

I haven't found a good spot for ours, right now its mounted next to the entry door, but during the day, unless the awning is out the temp always reads way high due to the sun. I was thinking underneath would be a better spot. How accurate do you really need it to be? Close enough has gotten us...

Power Wagon as a family Exploration Vehicle

Never felt like it lacked power at all, the gearing and transmission are wonderful. I know the other user posted he was getting 15 mpg, I was regularly seeing on 11-12 when not towing, on 37s.

Power Wagon as a family Exploration Vehicle

Here's our old 2023, we live full time on the road and the PW + Camper combo was amazing! 37's (no lift or suspension mods) and a soft topper. Would've loved another SmartCap (had one on our Ranger and it ruled). We bought this over the F-250 because of the interior mostly. We had a 2017 f-250...

    Isuzu npr 4wd

Too many variables, what's the temperature, do you have an electric or propane stove? Oven? Is your water heat propane? We have 2x 20lb tanks, if its cold and we are running the heat all day and night we get about 5-6 days. In the early spring when the heat is only on at night, we can go 2.5...

    Winnebago EKKO

$175k-$180k OTD seems to be the going rate for the Sprinter EKKO, the Transit models regularly go for around $150 OTD. Once they're down around $100k used in another year or two, I'll snag one for sure.

    Winnebago EKKO

It's like an other mass manufactured RV, you'll need to put it back together a few times, and with better screws and glue than Winnebago uses. Have you seen them in person yet? While I love the EKKO, the craftsmanship and build quality is what I'd consider "well below par" for something that's...

New Garmin inReach - inReach Messenger Plus

Starlink and the Garmin have very, very different use cases. With an InReach, its attached to my backpack where I can easy reach it and with hold a button I can call emergency services. If you get seriously injured and need help, no one wants to dig Starlink out of their back pack, hook it to a...

Ram 3500 - Spare tire options for 37s.

Why do you NEEd a 37 spare? I had 37s on our PowerWagon and ran a 35 inch spare, fit in the stock location. Good enough to get off the trail or to the next tire shop. Unless the spare is going to be swapped into the tire rotation I dont see a need for a 37 as a spare tire.
