Bob the Campulance. E350 Crestline with Roof Raise. V3 in Progress.

Mine came with 245/75R16 P tires on the back (a big no-no). The tires were almost kissing at the bottom. They’d rubbed so much together that the sides had a flattened ring around them. I hadn’t given their weight rating much thought till one of the inner tires went flat, and then I realized the...

    2005 e350 5.4 4x4 swap!! Zf6 manual worth it?

Too young…. “The life expectancy of an artificial knee in someone your (my) age is 5-8 years. Best case senecio it can be replaced twice, and then you’ll loose the leg… any questions?” Suddenly, after that speech, my knee feels a whole lot better. The prospect of loosing my leg before I’m 60...

Any idea what happened? Used turbo go? Something more sinister?

    Ford E350 Question

One thing I didn’t factor in is that the only van I’ve had experience with is a dually 2WD Ambo. Empty it has 6k+ over the rear axle and 3k+ on the front. Therefore it’ll go anywhere a 12’ wide logging truck will go (and likely many they won’t). On road snow isn’t usually a concern, but I...

    Ford E350 Question

Every 4x4 van will have it's limitations off road. A lot depends on where you plan to drive it. For logging roads in these parts 2wd will go anywhere a 4x4 would go. For off-road, full sized rigs are way to massive to go on the trails. For these reasons, I've chosen to stay 2WD for the Ambo...

    2005 e350 5.4 4x4 swap!! Zf6 manual worth it?

That truly sucks. I'm glad you're ok and no one was more seriously injured. I've had a few reminders recently as to how mortal we are. Something about seeing a healthy person on death's door while you're there holding their hand has a way of doing that. Having to start over is frustrating...

Ujoint Offroad Colorado van build thread!

Puts us all to shame... makes me want to crawl under mine with a needle scaler. 200 hours later I could hit it with come paint and it’d be half as clean as that one.

    Price range on a 4x4 Conversion for a 96 E350?

Makes sense to me… I’ve go an Fj40 to take me anywhere my 2wd dually Ambo can’t. Even in 2wd it’ll go further than most lifted and locked full-size rigs can go.

My 4x4 Red Cross ERV Build and Adventures

Great to see you’re back up and running. I’d love to have a shop like yours… there’s no way my rig will fit under my 7’ door.

    97 E350 Crestline Ambo Build/Mod

Thanks... it's pretty surreal. I’m trying to focus on those images from my trip… rather than the afternoon, which I don’t have pictures of. These photos were as I shot them, in a compressed format, and then downsized. I still have the Raw images that are roughly 30 mb each and have even more...

    97 E350 Crestline Ambo Build/Mod

Sam Splints aren’t something I’ve seen before. They look useful. Similar in function to low temperature thermoplastics for splinting… just without the need for boiling water. I never had a tourniquet in my kit… all the triangular bandages are pre folded to be about 2” wide. If needed I’d use...

    97 E350 Crestline Ambo Build/Mod

Especially driving an ambulance, and having 90% of a paramedic’s training I hate to not have a kit with me. When I took my Industrial First Aid course I didn’t have any first aid kit to speak of. One night at 1:30 am I got a call from a class mate in the first aide course. She’d been drinking...

E-350 with Sienna seats and Weldtec base

I’d fabricate them far before I’d pay $1000 for a steel plate and some brackets. Having seen pictures of the mounts I don’t see them taking more than a day to make. I’d rather fabricate them just the way I want rather than spend a grand on something I could make in an afternoon.

That looks like a great axle. Disc brakes and 4.56 gears… you should be set now. I checked your numbers and got the same… so either we are both wrong or your calculations are correct.

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

An afternoon job at the side of road while traveling, or how long now? I’m all for not going down the rabbit hole… but every time I see oil on the front of my SBC I wonder if I should have used the last 2 gaskets in the rebuild gasket kit when I replaced the others. I don’t loose any sleep over...

My 4x4 Red Cross ERV Build and Adventures

Tough break! As disappointing as it is, you and the rig will live on to have many great adventures. The day will come when you’ll look back and see it was merely a small pothole in the road. I’m glad you weren’t in some distant corner of the world when it happened. That reminds me, I have only...

Where to mount my kayak? Side mount or HF trailer?

My $0.02 1) If you have a side rack, you’ll have to be aware of maximum vehicle width for roadways. I believe the max here is 8’6” without special transport permits. I’m not sure how wide your box is, but for comparison sake I’ve got an 88” wide box with Dusllies that stick out about 5” on each...
