Exploring Southern Utah Episode 3, The Maze District

The Maze District of Canyonlands National Park is one of the most remote places in the U.S. The roads are a mix of dirt, gravel and slick rock. The views are stupendous and the campgrounds are just a patch of dirt. The upper portion of the area can be reached from either Hanksville or Green...

Exploring Southern Utah Episode 2, The Flint Trail

To get from the upper level of the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park to the lower level you need to traverse the Flint Trail. This is not a road for the faint of heart. It is steep, rough and very exposed with tight switchbacks. I was in my stock height JKUR and scraped a couple of...

Exploring Southern Utah, Episode 1 The Burr Trail

I had a spare day before our trip into the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park so I decided to drive the historic Burr Trail. The Burr Trail was developed by John Burr in the late 1800’s so that he could move his cattle between the summer and winter grazing areas. The cattle trail ran...

    Portable Lithium Project

Those of you that watch my travel video know I that I use two different vehicles to go camping in. One is a 2002 Ford E350 camper van and the other is a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I move some of my basic camping gear, like sleeping pads and bags, fridge, stove, etc. from one vehicle...

    Moab to Home

My COBDR trip left me in the middle of nowhere on the border of Wyoming and Colorado. From there I headed back to Moab to pick up my wife at the airport. She has wanted to visit some of the National Parks in southern Utah for a while and we figured this would be a good time to do it. In addition...

Crooked Creek is the last of the passes we went over. You can think of it as a lovely drive through the woods on a decent gravel and dirt road. Like the others it is for your enjoyment and should not be used for any other purpose. Crooked Creek Pass in Real Time

The Hagerman Pass video is now up on YouTube. There are some really rough and rocky sections on this road as well as one section with an off camber obstacle that you need to work through. The views of Turquoise Lake are spectacular. Like the others it is for your enjoyment and should not be...

The Weston Pass video is now up on YouTube. The road to this pass was littered with small loose rock making JR rattle and vibrate on the way up. The way down had more embed rock. Like the others it is for your enjoyment and should not be used for any other purpose. Up and Down Weston Pass in...

The Tincup Pass videos are now up on YouTube. This was without a doubt the slowest drive both up and down. It seemed like most of the road was embedded rock with a bit of dirt and gravel here and there. On a side note, there is a bit of confusion on exactly how to spell Tincup. On some signs...

The drive up and down Los Pinos Pass is now up on YouTube. This was definitely the easiest of the pass with only about 1,260 feet of elevation gain. The easiness of the drive was offset by the groves of aspens that were turning yellow. Like the others it is for your enjoyment and should not be...

There were many times on the trip when an up hill group pulled off in a wide spot to let us downhillers pass by. We did the same on occasion. If someone is being courteous and stopping when they actually had the right of way you might want to thank them as you go by.
