How did you mount your Hi-Light jack lengthwise inside the bed of your truck?
On the Chevrolet/GMC trucks, you can't access the inside "wall" of the truck bed in order to attach any type of mount for a jack. Did you use toggle bolts or nutsertz or did you cut into the truck bed from the...
Diesel fuel weighs approximately 7.15 pounds per gallon (gasoline = 6.073 lbs/gal), so a full tank with 145 gallons adds and extra 1/2 ton or 1,037 pounds to his rig. Wow!
Thank you for all of the sources. Regarding the strip lights, are the strips flexible, and how much current do they draw? Can you just direct wire them to the battery with an inline fuse?
Since I will eventually install a tongue box to house some batteries, I'd like to have everything wired...
Thanks! The fold down shelves and the roof top tent itself serve as a heavy lock or theft deterrent. Perhaps two strong men would be able to lift up the roof top tent on the platform, but we haven't been able to do it. As far as waterproofing the trailer once the roof top tent platform is in...
Thanks; I'll look at that site. For the FJ40, I decided to keep it "Land Cruiser" and am now looking for a flush-mount overhead/interior light that will work. I should be able to find something out of a 60,62, 70, 80, or even from an FJ Cruiser that may work. I need a fairly "flat" fit and I...
We were just at the Southeast Overland Rally and Exp in Murphy, NC http://www.overlandrally.com/Overland_Rallies_and_Workshops/Southeast.html (posts #374 & #381) where we saw some VERY nice 4WD van conversions from U-Joint Offroad http://www.ujointoffroad.com/. You can see some of the pictures...
Can anyone recommend a good source for an overhead light? We need to install an overhead light under our roof top tent which is mounted on a 1/4-ton trailer.
1) I'd like to find one with an on/off switch that I can wire directly to the trailer's batteries.
2) It would help if it were fairly...
Before you buy anything, take a little time and read "Handyman Bob's" blogs on solar http://handybobsolar.wordpress.com/. More specifically, read the "RV Battery Charging Puzzle" http://handybobsolar.wordpress.com/the-rv-battery-charging-puzzle-2/.
He has a LOT of great and FREE information...
Our trailer is built with a pneumatic cylinder. You hook up any air supply, open the valve, and raise the tent platform with one hand. Right now, I'm using a portable DC air compressor http://www.ironman4x4.com/html/compressor.html, but I am considering either mounting a separate tank on the...
'Just returned from the Southeastern Overland Workshop and Rally in Murphy, NC. 'Had a great time and drove on some great trails with beautiful sights.
Here are a few of ours. It's a 1971 FJ40 pulling a slightly modified M416 1/4-ton trailer with a roof top tent, annex, and awning from www.IronMan4x4.com.
How did you cut the HyperVent matting to cover the floor/mattress of your roof top tent? Did you use two 39" strips running lengthwise? Our RTT is the typical 55" (1.4m) x 95" (2.4m). With a 39" wide strip going lengthwise, you would need 16 linear feet and would you use two pieces. This...
I'm interested to see the cost and details on re-gearing your Silverado from 3.73 to 4.11 gear ratio. When we bought our truck new in 2001, we could not find any 1/2-ton (1500) models with the 4.11 gear ratio. The rear is a no-brainer, but I'm interested in how your shop would convert the...
Do you have the exact name of what the matting is called? We use our RTT for the first time this past week, and there was a lot of condensation under the mattress which isn't good. Your solution is a lot cheaper than the material from Hypervent Marine.
For those of you out there that are serious about the issue, take at look at http://www.theplacewithnoname.com/blogs/klessons/index.html. It's VERY quick and interesting reading and it may make you think about what you think you know.
We just purchased a new roof top tent from www.IronMan4x4.com. We love it! I went over the entire tent, rain fly, awning, and annex room with a silicone base waterproofing spray. On all of the seams, I used a seam sealer from McNett...
I like those water cans with the spigots. What is the brand and where did you buy them? Are you happy with the setup? Something like that would work great for us too because the water cans would be easy to fill assuming that they had some type of carry handles. Thanks!
IronMan4x4's US distributor information is at http://www.ironman4x4.com/html/contact_north_america.html. The US distributor is Camel4x4 http://www.camel4x4.com/merchant2/.
We got the IronMan4x4 fridge because they offer a better warranty, and since our Toyota and Land Cruiser shop orders A LOT of other parts from them, I have no doubts that we would get quick and proper service on the unit if needed. The price we paid included the insulating case/cover.
The...
