I'm vehicle poor. Got too many fun projects including this Rover, my Cherokee Cheif, a K30 Chevy, two Austin Healey Sprites, a Toyota HJ60 diesel high roof Land Cruiser, plus the Farmall Cub and others. I should be able to narrow it down to four. Four's a good number...
Thanks. It's an 88".
That said, there are a lot of restoration items that I would like that appear to be unobtanium. Even finding solid info on these parts is hit and miss. If I do a search for "1957 Land Rover Series I tail lamps", the most popular search result is for the "pork pie" lamps...
Update - The HEI is installed, and the Cherokee runs great!
I should have been a bit more prepared though. The days that the Jeep sat blocking the doorway of my shop, It never once occurred to me that the distributor gears might have been compromised during the distributor explosion event...
I've come real close a couple times to cutting this one in half and extending the wheelbase to make it a 107".
A 3RZ would have about 40 more horsepower, and fit in the same space. I say go for it.
Searching my files for off-roading pics last night, I am surprised that I only have a few. I guess I spent most of the time holding onto the steering wheels, instead of the camera. I did find some good ones though.
These pics are on the Wenttworth Springs loop, which drops down onto the Rubicon...
Barrett Lake Trail - This trip was for my friend Harry's 40th birthday. He also wrote the magazine feature on this Rover back in 2006. Link here (wonder if it's still any good) - https://www.fourwheeler.com/features/0611-4wd-1957-range-rover/
I've had my 1957 Series I for about 20 years now, and I think it's almost time for some restoration work.
The story of this Rover, at least how it came into my possession, starts back in the early 2000's. A friend of my dad's came across two of them while roaming the remote Northern California...
Orange is the new black. That's the name I like for our Cherokee. It's too long, I know, so another name is in the works.
Finally made it down to DMV and got plates and stickers for Jack-o-lantern (maybe?). Any trip to DMV is like a trip to the Amazon rainforest - you never know what you might...
I want to give a huge thank you to @SkiWill for the parts books. He was kind enough to send me copies of the factory parts manuals. Super helpful and a very kind gesture. Thanks again.
Right, that's why I got confused, because I didn't think the Cherokee even had one. So when I saw the part listing on Rock Auto, it made me think. I wonder if it was an option for other climates.
What the hell. Let's get this thing registered. I figure it's time so next week I'll pop into DMV to take the Cherokee off on non-op status. Yes, you need to go into the DMV office to do this, which seems stupid to me. Everything else can be done online, but not non-op stuff.
So far, the...
