    Evacuation Insurance/International Medical Insurance

I've used World Nomads years ago. Martin Davies recommended it to me and they seem well suited to our needs. Can't give a personal recommendation as I didn't need any medical attention but I was happy to have their coverage.

    Whistling Maggiolina...

Sounds like the airflow is disturbed. If you really want to see what is going on then put telltales all over the tent's surface and the roof of your 100 and then you can see what the airflow is doing. Telltales are pieces of cassette tape, ribbons or anything taped on the surfaces that will...

Issue w\ Roof Top tent: Floor caving?

What is the deal with aluminum floor?, is there an advantage over wood like the tents coming out to South Africa?

identifying a quality hard shell RTT

Mr Coyote, sounds like you need a four season roof tent. The only ones I'm familiar with are the Zifer (AutoHome, Italy) and AutoCamp.de (German) four season tents. The French Baroud tents might also be four season tents but I'm not familiar with them maybe someone who has one can chime in. I...

identifying a quality hard shell RTT

You are right, hard top tents are a completely different animal Some things to consider Weight - you pay a lot more for less. For example, the difference between a quality fiberglass tent and carbon fiber tent is about 15 pounds, more strength but you pay another $1000. Really hard to make...

    Thinnest packed RTT?

I think you will have a little more room than you thought. You probably measured the door opening and then measured to the top of your rig. What you will want to do is put your rig in the doorway and then measure from the top of it to the top of the door. Why? It is geometry. You should have...

Import RTT From China? Ever try it? Pitfalls concerns?

Good point, but I would like to add a little. There are a lot of fine products made in other countries that aren't shipped to the US. I once tried to "import" a bicycle from Europe and the manufacturer wouldn't ship to the USA because of product liability. Yes, I know it sounds weenie but...

SEMA Jeep Grand Cherokee with AUTOHOME

I think what Mike is referring to is a Thread-cert or Rivnut. These are nuts that are somewhat like a pop rivet. Drill a hole, pop in a rivnut, then you can bolt to sheet metal. This the how Thule and Yakima attach their aftermarket tracks on roofs and shells. Works well and Jeep obviously...

    Hard Shell RTT care

Chances are you have gel coat protecting your fiberglass. It is like a soft thick paint coating. Best stuff I have found is 3M fiberglass restorer, standard auto waxes are designed for a hard enamel paint and the grit is too fine to really clean your fiberglass.

    Tent condensation

jaysOn - Guess the heating and rolling the boulder into the tent trick will not work for you :-) Never understood why Tepui chose to make an alloy base to their tents. We use alloys as heat sinks, most of your heat is lost through the bottom of the tent because of your contact. Moisture...

    Tent condensation

I'm not that familiar with the OZ tent. Since they are an Australian tent, I figure they are optimized for warmer, dryer weather. You may want to adapt it for colder damper conditions. Check out mountaineering tents and you will get the concept, they are mostly double walled (or with rainfly)...

    Columbus Winter Hood. Worth it??

I would recommend getting what they call the "anti-condensation mat" before you think about a winter hood. It lifts the mattress above the base adding ventilation and insulation. I've found it much more comfortable when you go below freezing with a Columbus. Yes, it is expensive, I think I...

Personal review of the Maggiolina roof top tent.

Check with Mike at AutoHome. There used to be an accessory called a "crank extension", like a socket wrench extension. It was made for folks that had really wide vehicles like Hummers and smaller tents. This way you could mount the tent in the middle of the roof and not have it interfere with...

RTT in high winds compared to Hard Side RV??

Actually, Frenchie is very modest. He was instrumental in the development of hard-shelled tents. For example, in high winds, Frenchie noticed that tents suffer from changes in pressure. A gust comes in as a high pressure wave, and the sides of a hard shelled tent get sucked in. After the...

    New Tripolina Chair update

Just saw your eMail, Mike is up here in Oregon for a month "bird hunting" in reality, exercising his pack of dogs. This is really a one man operation, made here in the US. He built up an eclectic group of people to realize this product. I'm afraid you have to be patient Rich

    Overland Tent

I think I had a similar tent years ago, an Air-Camping tent from Italy and it too had the funky bungie system. Where this system excelled is in cold weather when everything is all stiff and hard. I had a lot of bedding inside and didn't want to take it out so in the morning I would shake the...

    Autohome Overcamp RTT

Justin OverCamp tents are pretty rare, you may have to talk AutoHome out of one, and prove you are worthy. What makes them good also makes them bad, not bad really, but bad for the consumer market. First thing you will notice is that the tent is open on the sides, great for ventilation in the...

James Baroud or Autohome roof top tent

Dariusz I wouldn't be too hard on AutoHome USA, what you are asking is very cumbersome and needlessly expensive. It would be much better to ship direct from Europe. If shipped from the US, you would be paying double duties. I used to be in shipping and remember that tents carry something...

    Cold weather RTT??

Hey Odd, When you are going out in the cold think mountaineering type tent. You want a smaller tent, less volume to heat up, one that is a four season tent, namely insulated or double walled. If it is wet, then a hard top roof tent is best, things sometimes just don't dry out. Heating is a...

need noob explanation how to mount RTT to factory rails

Installation is simple Buy a sport rack - Get a good one with a 165 Lb rating, Thule and Yakima are the standards Call AutoHome and buy a set of "U" bolts and sliders. Yes, you can make a set but they aren't expensive and the ones from AutoHome have been crash tested. Oh, and all the...
