The half ton will really limit you, used usually means older, which are heavier. Six is pushing even a big truck camper, unless you like it cozy.
The pop up is probably a better choice, maybe a John boat on top????

I completely restored (90%) brand new an Alaskan Truck camper, but not everyone has the skill, time, or desire to do so. Hiring a job out like that would not be cost effective. It would be cheaper to buy new

I'm not sure I get the question, if your company will buy the truck- what's to think about? I daily drove my Ram 2500 4x4 crew cab for several years. It now has my Alaskan on it so I take my car. I miss the truck, but not the 12mpg
