    GX460 vs LX470?

I recently looked at both in person. The most important difference I observed is that the LX has more cargo room. Its third row seats fold up or can be removed, whereas the GX third row seats fold into floor, resulting in a considerably higher floor height.

The 130 is a quite promising touring wagon. JLR stands out among manufacturers for its attention to off-road and payload-capable wagons. No others seem to value this combination. I wish they would.

Decisions...'18 XC, Ranger, or older used?

I really like what Ford offers with the Ranger. In my opinion it's the segment winning touring truck given (1) a base model can be spec'd with a locker, (2) 1700 lb payload, (3) good ergonomics, power and efficiency, (4) great value, and (5) it's a sharp-looking rig. My only nit is that they...

It is unfortunate that there's not more detailed data publicly available. I will pay for subscription data in a few years if Defender is still on my short list. As the only one-ton offroad touring wagon in the U.S. market, it likely will be.

Totally - it has to be the only company selling a one-ton offroad touring wagon in the U.S.

The price is difficult to swallow. Hopefully there will be tax credits to help soften the blow--I haven't looked into that.

I share reliability concerns for remote travel. It's paramount. Note, though, the example of Prius, which over its twenty or so years has proven to be a remarkably reliable platform. That provides at least some measure of hope that we can have similarly reliable hybrid platforms for off-road...

JLR really, really needs to improve this. I recall reading some renewed commitment by JLR to address it with launch of the new Defender. To the contrary, they seem to be widening the industry bell curve. I'm still of the, "give three to five years to see how it shakes out" mind with Defender's...

Based on what data? Despite higher curb weight, the Wrangler 4xe retained its payload.

Land Rover again crushes the competition--dependable undependability. Notably, Land Rover's dependability worsened from 2020 to 2021. The majority, 11 of 17 consumer reviews of new Defender here report at least one problem: https://www.edmunds.com/land-rover/defender/2020/consumer-reviews/...

Oh. For some reason I was under an impression he had. Thanks for clarifying. And, apologies, @softrovers. Without beating a dead horse (we've hashed and re-hashed on this and the hate thread), I agree on coils, complexity, cost, and reliability. Even so, Defender's a magic combo of payload...

Great stuff, thanks for sharing. It's always seemed to me that the Australian rules are the best conservative guide as to how far one can safely increase GVW. That is, they seem carefully consider how much different vehicles can handle. For the U.S. spec 200, the Australian rule allows a gain...
