FJ62 LS Swap - Lone Star Sleeper - Stoffregen Motorsports

Will do. I'm in the process of setting up the software now. When I was down at Mark Romans' place, I watched him go through the steps and it's a very intuitive interface, so I don't think I can screw it up that badly...

Looks great. What fan is that? I thought all the fans were plastic now days.

FJ62 LS Swap - Lone Star Sleeper - Stoffregen Motorsports

Sorry guys. I have been avoiding the web. I have made a ton of progress, near completion actually. I have had a couple hang ups though, which have pushed me back. I'm actually feeling a bit guilty that it's taking this long... Problem #1 - the original trans that was sent to us was a 6L90e...

    1987 Hilux SR5 Turbo Build

The FJ60/62's have vents in the rear of the front fenders that help extract the hot air from the engine bay. There is even a blower fan that vents from the driver side fender opening. Finding a suitable location for venting is going to be the hard part. Visually, they can be nasty things to...

Cool little truck. What plans do you have to help get the hot air out of the engine bay? I'd love to see more pics of the truck during the engine repair process. Don't forget this time...!

Nice job Stan. I especially like the electrical box on the axle.

FJ62 LS Swap - Lone Star Sleeper - Stoffregen Motorsports

Now that all the hard parts ore off getting powder coated, it's time to dot some i's and cross some t's. I'm sure most of you Toyota die hards have heard of the FJ80 brake master cylinder swap. It's a popular swap but I doubt most people realize why. Bigger is not always better and simply...

FJ62 LS Swap - Lone Star Sleeper - Stoffregen Motorsports

Getting all the parts ready for the powder coaters, there were two tubes that needed to be pressure checked. Here's one being tested. The bubbles you see are from the hose, not the tube... With everything finished and carefully counted and documented (don't want to lose anything at the...

FJ62 LS Swap - Lone Star Sleeper - Stoffregen Motorsports

While I had the trans up on the bench, I had to clearance the pan slightly to avoid driveshaft interference. It didn't need much and instead of cutting it, I peened the edge to gain clearance and keep some rigidity. It never ceases to amaze me how some people just suck. Removing the trans...

On to the transfer case shifter. I was careful to take measurements of the stock shifter pivot before I disassembled the truck, and that made building the new bracket a lot easier. Here a simple pivot is needed and a bracket to attach it to. I had thought I would just use the original pivot, but...

If I had done a little more planning, I could have built the fan shroud around the A/C drier, but I didn't... A simple extension of the bracket puts the A/C drier back close to its original location. Heater hoses seem insignificant, but to get them out of the way in a manner that looks...

FJ62 LS Swap - Lone Star Sleeper - Stoffregen Motorsports

Moving on to the charcoal canister. Technically we don't need one, but I wanted to have one. It may or may not be connected to an EVAP purge valve system in the future. It's stock location is right on the frame rail, and would now contact the header, so with a modified bracket, it now sits next...

FJ62 LS Swap - Lone Star Sleeper - Stoffregen Motorsports

Stan, just doing what I do, and making progress. In a scramble to get the batch of parts ready for the powder coaters, there were still a couple items I needed to check off the list. The power steering and trans coolers needed to be mounted, as well as the A/C drier and the charcoal canister...

    El Burro - 1989 4Runner Build

Thanks. Hopefully I'll have time to finish it this fall/winter. I just have to finish up one customer job and then get my CJ5 done and sold. I have 100 hours into that dash alone.

I know how you feel. Personal projects get relegated to the back burner. I spent 3 straight months getting my '83 Toyota project running and driving with the intention of having it complete for KOH...2016. It's still under a cover on the side of the shop. Someone should invent a new stove with...

FJ62 LS Swap - Lone Star Sleeper - Stoffregen Motorsports

I was on another forum, replying to someone's question of LS swap advice, and a guy chimed in that he could do it for $3000 plus parts. We got into a debate about the difference between his conversion and mine. It was like two ships passing in the night. I couldn't convince him that "the right...

Some auto journalist said that 90% of the build is in the detail work. I would agree 100%. Thank you. I'm happy that it shows.

That roof is one of those things that seems simple, but ends up being a time sucker. Looks great though.

FJ62 LS Swap - Lone Star Sleeper - Stoffregen Motorsports

Started the disassembly phase yesterday. Now things get to go out to the powder coaters and I get to start on the few mechanical things easier to do with the engine out. A transfer case shifter needs to be designed and built, as well as a trans shifter. We're going to try and use the original...

    Possibly found a 60

If it's rust free (which it probably isn't if it has lived it's life in the salty midwest), I'd buy it in a heart beat. It looks very clean otherwise. And you know the difference between rust and rot, right? One is easy to repair, the other can be very costly.
