    Maxtrax mounting options

I have a stack of four MaxTrax mounted to my roof basket with MaxTrax mounting pins. I had to do a little light fab work to get everything situated the way I wanted it, but it worked out fine. The only thing I don't like about the MaxTrax mounting pins is that the hole for the lock is a bit...

    Next truck, 4 different options...

The PW option package is a real bargain compared to doing it yourself on a new truck. If the PW body configuration meets your needs, that would be the smarter way to go from a purely financial standpoint. But, if you buy a non-PW Ram, you have the option to order a MegaCab or a long bed or a...

I think that statement can stand on its own, no context needed.

    Next truck, 4 different options...

Have you priced those things from AEV? There are lots of bumper choices, but the PW does not really need a new bumper unless you are planning to hit critters on the highway. The factory winch mount is plenty stout and there is no good reason to relocate it to a new bumper. The best bumper for...

    Next truck, 4 different options...

Most of the AEV stuff that is actually available as parts is overpriced and unnecessary. Lots of show and very little go. If you want to build a PW, go to the PW Registry and start reading the various threads, including the discussions of AEV stuff. Manual trans PWs are extremely scarce, and...

    SnoMaster Fridge/Freezer Review

Here is the label on one of my Whynters. Looks legit to me.

    Dual battery problem

Yes, but your explanation was much better than mine.

    Dual battery problem

I have worked around that issue by doing a partial charge of dead AGMs with an old dumb charger to get the voltage up enough for the smart charger to recognize the AGM. Then just switch to the smart charger to finish the charge/recondition cycle. Let the AGM rest overnight, then run the...

    Dual battery problem

Since the starting battery is failing, check parasitic drain. There may be something drawing down that battery while the Jeep is parked. Drain plus sulfation plus not reconditioning on AGM charger can kill a battery over a year or two.

    Odyssey vs. Diehard Platinum

Thanks. My latest approach is to run multiple, repetitive conditioning cycles on the G31 Odyssey. That technique has brought other Odyssey and Optima batteries back from the dead, but they were all G34s. The G31 is a strange beast with odd habits.

    Odyssey vs. Diehard Platinum

My latest (and probably last) Odyssey 31 (two years old this month) gets charged on shore power every two to three weeks, on either an Odyssey 20 amp or a Ctek 7 amp. Neither one will get it above 12.65 OCV, but full charge is 12.85 OCV. Can't get there from here. For the first year+ I kept a...

    LED headligths

My feeling about headlights has always been that if the stock lights are not adequate for the kind of driving I do, then an upgrade is in order, whether DOT legal or not. I have been tweaking my headlights since the 1960's and have never, NEVER, been stopped or questioned on my headlights...

    3.73 vs 4.10 in a 3/4 ton

If you run the numbers, you generally won't save enough on fuel to offset the cost of the gear swap to longer gears on a 4WD truck. With rare exceptions, it only makes economic sense if you are going to keep the truck for a long time and a lot of miles. My Power Wagon came with 4.56s and after...

    LED headligths

You should probably ask this on the Candlepower forum, but be prepared for harsh but knowledgeable responses. I looked into retrofit LEDs two summers ago, and there was no good solution for 9007s in stock housings. The factory 9007s on my Dodge truck were the worst factory headlights I had...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

My Tundra CrewMax got hit by some kid on a bicycle, while the truck was parked. The rental I picked up yesterday happens to be a 2017 Frontier 4WD. It runs well but I feel like I'm driving a toy truck. It seems even smaller than my early 70s Toyota or my old Mazda, and the bed is tiny. But...

2.5V voltage drop normal when running a 50 amp load?

I have never had to load mine to stall, and not sure one could with any reasonable electrical system. When Dodge spec'd the winch system for Warn to build, they insisted that the winch include thermal protection and a low voltage interrupt. With a stock Grp 65 battery and the original 160 amp...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

Possibly because it hinders articulation? Sway bars will help with attitude when cornering, but they also compromise absolute adhesion, and these things with the 5.7 are already a little tail happy. My CrewMax is so nose heavy when empty that I don't think a rear sway bar would make a...

2.5V voltage drop normal when running a 50 amp load?

My winch is rated by Dodge as 12,000 lbs, but the motor is same as Warn 15,000 lbs. It pulls 440 amps at max load IIRC. I actually have three batteries with isolators and Blue Sea rotary switches so that I can include or isolate batteries as needed. Batteries are an Odyssey G31 and a pair of...

Tundra vs 5.9 Cummins - Help!

It seems that they had some problems with the 2007-08 Tundras, too. OP is considering that vintage of second gen Tundra. http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tundra-general-discussion/116779-2007-2008-tundra-corrosion-resistant-compound-crc-campaign.html My Tundra is a 2008 CrewMax and I have not...
