I know it may sound dumb but have you considered a spacer of some material on top of your bed rails to raise the shell up? I'm guessing here because I really don't know how much room you need 1or 2"? Where that could get sticky is the rear window to tailgate fit.

I just ordered a couple, looks like it will work well with my new butane Gas 1 setup.

I think if you fab a bracket the strap needs to be metal per DOT regs.

Make sure you have the low voltage cut out set at the level you're comfortable with.
