    Truck bed tents, air mattresses

Coleman now sells an air mattress that is sized for use in SUV's. It might be a better fit for compact pickups as well. Standard 'twin' size mattresses are 39" wide, 72" or more long. This one is a bit wider (41) and a bit shorter. paulj

What do you consider to be the best cookware kit?

If you are hard on gear, avoid titanium. The metal is tough, but the pots are made from the thinnest sheet possible, both because of the cost, and the weight savings. These pans are aimed at backpack packers who want the lightest possible gear. Rough use may not break them, but certainly will...

    Streets and trips

I have a copy from 2003. The road data base is essentially the same as what you find on line at places like Google maps. So it does show roads down to the level of minor forest service ones, but it does not give much information about the terrain or road conditions. Google maps with the...

How to make the Roof Top Tent is Level

I don't have a RTT, but we normally sleep in the car (Element) with our heads toward the tailgate. I bought a set of 'lego' leveling blocks ($15?), but have never used them. Instead I just put some effort into finding the levelest spot possible, and then park with the front of the car pointing...

    Tent restoration?

For the floor I would recommend a tarp of some sort under the floor, and plastic sheet inside. The one underneath should not project beyond the tent sides, and serves mainly to keep the floor from getting dirty and torn on rocks and sticks. The one inside should extend up the sides 6" in a...

    The Ultimate Awning-shelter?

According to this page http://springbar.com/explore/canopies/auto.html it is trapizoidal. I think there is one horizontal pole along the narrow end, which is strapped to the roof rack. Two upright poles support the outboard edge. paulj

    9V battery 'settings saver?'

If the radio and the power outlet are on the same circuit (same side of the ignition switch), than the 9v gadget should work, as far as the radio's settings go. I can plug a portable 12v battery pack into my 12v outlet (using a male-to-male cord) and listen to the radio without using the...

    Wildernest Spare Parts Info

Since I never got the seams of my WilderNest fully sealed, I ended up depending on a poly tarp for waterproofness, especially during extended rains. I don't recall for sure what size I used, but I think it was 9x16. It extended beyond the roof by about a foot on all sides. As such it did not...

    WilderNest owners vote here.

If you can find it, waterproof polyester makes good rainfly material. When wet it does not expand like nylon, hence stays tighter. I wonder if the MSR Outfitter tarp would fit over a Wildernest. That's a large 7 point wing tarp. It's long enough to form an overhang at the back...

    WilderNest owners vote here.

I haven't thought about this tent in some time, but I do have experience using a large poly tarp as a rainfly over a WilderNest. Separation between fly and tent body would be nice, but not entirely essential. Perhaps the easist way to get a separation, is to hang the breathable, bugproof part...

    Hot Spring Weekend

There are web sites devoted to hot springs, for example http://www.idahohotsprings.com/ covering both private (commercial) and public sites. If your hidden spot isn't on a list like this, then by all means keep quiet about it. But it is already listed, there is little point in being...
