You finally got one! Congrats! Very surprised that the water pump was replaced without doing the timing belt being the timing belt needs to come off to do that service.
According to car-part the '99 Sport had an optional locker with the 3.0l and 4x4 (4.63 or 4.27 ratio) but only a rear locker in the 3.5l in the 4x2 (4.22 ratio). Perhaps the 4x2 with the 3.5l uses a 9"?
By far the best buy out there is the TuffStuff RTT. I've owned one (mounted on my Monteros). Includes annex and shipping for $1199, BTW as a previous RTT owner - the annex is indispensable, and I prefer the sliding ladder over the telescoping. I debated long and hard about buying another one...
I couldn't find it when I was looking. Might be available from Mitsubishi, but I bet its expensive. I'm about 2 years into the '93 re-upholstery using the salvaged passenger side lower on the drivers side, its my daily and really shows no deformation since the refresh. Boy oh boy do I like...
what year? '98 to 2000... 16+ year old any vehicle will need maintenance. 4X4 even more. Its just a fact.
When was your last timing belt / water pump / tensioners completed? @120K? its a 60K PM on a 3.5l IIRC.
I did them on my Gen 3 and those 2 harnesses are essentially in the same position. Real bugger to get to. Maybe my hands are smaller, took a lot of persistence and a pick tool. Definitely the longest part of the R&R.
Did you happen to mess around with the shifter and possibly disconnect the neutral safety switch or move its adjustment? Jiggle the shift lever in and out of park.
