Got new tires for the van over the weekend. Went with Cooper Discoverer ATPs; 285/75R16. The old tires were BFG All Terrains, and they were wide - 305s. Since I can't get the bushwhacker fender flares because of the sliding door, I like the look of the slightly narrower tires better.

Oh, and I weighed the van today: 3880 front, 4580 rear, 8460 total. When we started, the total was 6640, so we've added about 1800 lbs in the build. I figure that with us and all of our personal stuff, and loaded with water, we'll probably be a little over GVWR, but not by too much.

And the rest of this phase: Fuel tank selector valve. This replaced the fuel transfer pump that used to pump fuel to the main tank. This switches the tank the engine draws from. Aux fuel tank Top view showing solar panel and awning Since I'm not planning to replace the front bumper, I...

    Quigley E250 donor under a 2wd diesel E350?

FWIW, my 2001 E350 with the 7.3 weighed 3750 on the front axle, empty. That was after a 4x4 conversion that used a super duty axle. GAWR on the front axle as read from the nameplate was 4050.

So it's been awhile since I've updated this. We just got the van back from CCV the other day. Derek has had it on 4 or 5 separate occasions over the course of the past year. Unless we come up with something we haven't thought of, everything else is minor stuff that I'll do myself. Here's what...

Baja 4x4 RV on Albuquerque Craigslist

Don't know if someone bought this or if it's still for sale, but I spotted it in the vicinity of Buena Vista, CO yesterday. Gotta be the same one - pretty unmistakable.

... Oh and the weight: 3860 front, 4440 rear, 8300 total. 1100 lbs shy of gvwr. That's without any passengers or any personal stuff. Half tank of fuel, no water on board.

Cool, thanks for the info. The cheapie camera I bought off of amazon didn't work, so I sent it back and ordered a more expensive one from crutchfield. I thought about overriding the brake interlock thing and might still do that, but the brake sensor wire was easy to find so I just hooked it up...

mrwizard - thanks! Yeah, tires are 33s (305/70R16) Whhite whhale - Wow, that thing is amazing. Good thing I didn't see that before I put mine it or Derek might have had to figure out how to build one! We were hoping to be able to rotate both the passenger and center seats, but with our setup...

Returned from Utah yesterday. Had a great time on the White Rim Road, and the van performed very well. Here are some more photos: https://picasaweb.google.com/105310652845590044979/1211WhiteRim?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCIX4-ISSzM2TSw&feat=directlink I know I promised some interior photos...

    Diesel powered cooktops/water heating

Yes, it does take some time to cool down after you switch it off. There's a light under the ceramic surface that stays lit until it's back to room temperature I was reading the owner's manual for the dualtop last night and it said that if you want to use it above 2200m (~7200') you should...

A friend and I went to pick it up on Saturday, but we weren't able to drive it home because of some issues with the plumbing and the appliances. Derek fixed that stuff on Saturday evening and drove it down to my house in Denver on Sunday. Everything seems to work well, although I'm paranoid...

When plans meet reality... So it turns out that you can only fit the 46 gal tank in if the 4x4 conversion was done by replacing the transmission bell housing with one from an F-series. Some conversions (including ours) use an adapter to mate up the original bell housing to the transfer case. Or...

Cool, thanks Ryan! Glad to hear the bumper is in. We'll be giving the bike rack a workout on the white rim trail in a couple of weeks. I've never had much luck with bike racks on rough roads - broken forks, broken bike racks - but this seems about as solid as you could make one. congrats on...
