MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Sneak peek at the flooring (Lumber Liquidators Bellawood Acacia) we will install. These are lifting panels beneath the table. Still need to cut in the hinges (you can barely see on the left I have started to cut them in) and lift ring. will likely get some friction latches from Lowes. The tape...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

I am using Sika 252 with the 215 primer for the wood. The FRP is sanded. It is also screwed but those are mainly there to hold the pieces in place to let them cure. I would never trust only screws as I am pretty sure the would not hold. I have not yet upgraded the alternator. Not sure I will...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

A bit more work on the headboard. Still need to build the upper cabinet on the back wall (the square hole on the right top in the picture). The middle opening in the headboard will be for something framed, I have a couple of small adjustable flush lights on order for the top panel. The small...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

We are planning on painting the corners the same color as the 45 degree fiberglass edges we made, sort a light gray. Using Interlux Perfection 2 part paint. Hopefully I will figure out the bending along with welding the thin aluminum. If only I had your metal working skills (and tools). I think...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Thanks for that, first off that is a really nice truck! If our budget would have allowed I would have talked with these guys. So as of last night at around 10pm I decided on trying the acrylic and ordered up a piece (1/2" thick). My current plan is to make it full height between the counter top...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Hey guys, looking for some ideas about our counter top to sitting area. Our counter top ends up against the sitting area, which will be upholstered. I am considering a 1/2" bit of clear acrylic from the counter top to the bottom of the upper cabinet (still yet to be built). This would stop any...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Thanks, although I am generally happy with what we have done it is nowhere near perfect and if I had to do it over would do a few things differently (luckily nothing major)! I come from a family of carpenters (though I ended up programming computers). My brother who stayed in the carpentry trade...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Yup, that is in the plans. For air from the main cabin into the lockers I have 4" round heater vents. From within the lockers will just be hole saw holes. For heat I was planning on a couple of Kuba VA200 heat exchangers, which I ordered from a UK company (when running they will pull air into...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Here is a pic of the batteries set in place on their shelf (still need to work on the hold downs). Still can't believe there is supposed to be 400Ah there. The walnut ply panel will be the electrical panel. There is 1 Blue Seas AC panel and 2 DC Blue Seas panels. Then the Renogy 2000 watt...

High Quality Gravity Lockable Water Fill

Thanks guys, with the marine ones the fill would be horizontal seems the RV gravity ones are slanted, which makes sense. For simplicity I just ordered a round locking plastic one. At least if it does not work out the hole is small enough where I can try a different one. I did find though a guy...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

All the under seat divider walls are built. Still need to bond one in (the one on the left) and build the seat support that go over the water tank. Then of course all the plywood panels. I am also going to put in a maple surround on the top of the back cushions so all the edges of the cushions...

Motorcycle or not on a MB 1120

So, although I rode a dirt bike as a teen I have yet to own a road legal bike. When you guys talk about insurance, paperwork and licensing I am assuming outside of the USA? I know in VT registration is $35 a year, but unsure of the insurance. If I was to buy, I would buy used 200cc dual sport...

Motorcycle or not on a MB 1120

Hey guys, although not at the point of really needing to make a decision what are your thoughts on bringing a motorbike along? Our truck is a Mercedes 1120 so I think weight should not be a huge issue. Bigger issue is the mounting system with the spare tire (or tires) on the back. Also for those...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

We finished building (still needs varnishing) the platform for the table pedestal. I still need to build the 2 floor panels that will be hinged on each side, sort of waiting on those for when I do the flooring. The "fids" are also in place around the seating area. In the back right corner is the...

High Quality Gravity Lockable Water Fill

I agree with trying to go custom, trust me, this build is already "custom" enough for me to do a custom water fill ;-)

High Quality Gravity Lockable Water Fill

Thanks guys, I contacted Earth Roamer inquiring if they sold the water fill. They told me it is a 3 piece part, the filler door David brought up, a marine deck fill and a custom part. They said they currently do not sell parts, oh well. My guess is the custom part is machined, which I have no...

Choosing one of the MB trucks

Well, Australia is definitely on our list. We spent 6 months there on the east coast on our boat with a few trips inland with a hire car, no where enough time to do that country justice. Loved it there and can't wait to return (with a side trip to N.Z. which is also a great country). Just need...

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

Will do, if I forget please remind me. I plan on working on the platform (the floor is raised about 6" in the dinette area to allow more storage under the seats) that the pedestal will be mounted on over the next few days. Once that is done I will mount the pedestal. I did take it out of the box...

High Quality Gravity Lockable Water Fill

Yeah, and I found a nice stainless one with a angled neck. Only problem was it was not lockable. Thanks David for that, not sure but EarthRoamer seems to use them for all connections. There are 5 of them used on the XV-LTS. Now I just need to figure out how to mesh the 2 (and if it is worth it).

MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

We had a few days of unseasonably warm weather, perfect for the adhesive for the solid surface counter top (though we did take a couple of days off the build to enjoy the 70+ sunny weather). I still need to cut out the sink (you see it mounted under the counter top on the right) and drill the...
