The Triple Threat Grand Cherokee (2003 WJ)

yeah, the inline-6 jeeps have a nice flat area on the manifold that you can just throw some tin-foil wrapped stuff directly on. my v8 engine bay is way more crowded! so i took a medium sized loaf baking ban, riveted a hinge to it and to an aluminum plate that i cut to match the shape of the pan...

The Triple Threat Grand Cherokee (2003 WJ)

unfortunately not going. even if i get all of my known issues worked out in the next couple of days, too many things are unproven - the entire drive-line and half of the suspension changed and i haven't had it on dirt yet. i don't want to be "that guy" everyone is waiting for to fix his junk on...

impressions of DMC-G2 (EVIL, micro four thirds)

update: it's been on a few trips now, nothing crazy yet, but it's surviving just fine even without a proper cleaning. it's even my go-to camera in the garage when documenting mods. you'd probably expect me to downgrade my older p&s to shop-duty, but rather once you are used to a higher quality...

The Triple Threat Grand Cherokee (2003 WJ)

thanks guys! my axle swap has more or less been done for a bit. of course now there are some new issues to work out though... hoping to have it ready for a test run very soon and i'll post full details then. i'm having trip-withdrawl-sickness currently! teaser:

    KM2 or AT?

i used to always run nitto terra graplers (all-terrains), was always afraid of how much noise/balancing/wear/etc mud terrains might have. then i got KM2's one day just to try it, no problems whatsoever wearing out a complete set of 5 33's. now on a set of 5 35's and no problems either. the KM2s...

    Shurflo wiring

the center of the socket is positive, connect the wire coming from the center of your lighter plug to the red wire on the shurflo and other wire to the black wire on the shurflow. there will usually be a fuse inside the tip of most lighter plugs, you need to make sure that fuse is just slightly...

The Triple Threat Grand Cherokee (2003 WJ)

i forgot to mention one other important expo related item - comm's and nav! i started out with a CB and a Firestik like many folks. here's running antenna wiring early in the jeeps life: antenna mounting: notching the tailight so it didn't sit off-angle any due to the antenna bracket...

The Triple Threat Grand Cherokee (2003 WJ)

thanks! i keep that one up to date with every little change. in other news - the axle swap is more or less done, the shop is getting driveshafts modified and doing an unrelated radiator replacement this week.

The Triple Threat Grand Cherokee (2003 WJ)

thanks! it's wired directly through an external switch (with it's own fuse), mainly because i was in a hurry to get it finished for a trip. i do want it to work anytime, not just when jeep is running because the idea eventually is to have an on-board tank and have a faucet in the rear of the...

how did you mount your roof basket?

quick-fix: get some thule or yakima bars/clamps and return them after the trip? long term fix: my rola roof rack would slide to a side when clamped to factory roof bars and loaded down heavily, and just didn't seem secure in general - so we converted it to a semi-perm mount: hard-mounting...

    On Board Air

there's different options, some people on trails rigs convert there existing A/C to OBA (loosing A/C). for Wranglers there are commercial brackets available to add a York or your own Sanded A/C based compressor without removing your A/C. mainly depends on vehicle and engine and your fab skills...

    specific dual battery controller/manager question

haha, you'd think so by now wouldn't you? i have all the cable, circuit breakers, crimp ends and a new hammer crimper to do it - just haven't managed to actually make it happen! jeep is currently in shop for a bit for new axles and some other stuff.

    Tent search

just received my new REI Hobitat 6 tent last week that had been on backorder. upon setting it up in the backyard for a dry run, it was promptly returned. we had the 2008 hobitat for a few years and it was one of my favorite tents ever. it had one problem with pooling water at the top in a flat...

    On Board Air

best deal going for serious air is the Puma - search ebay for "puma 12v" if you don't have very large tires (under 31"), then many have had great success with the Master Flow MV50 or similiar (available at cotsco sometimes and pep-boys) also amazon/ebay/etc: Amazon.com: Q Industries MV50...

    Cooking under awning

i share your thoughts about a small multi-use shelter... you can read about my trials with something similar here: http://www.offroadpassport.com/forum/showthread.php?t=980 basicly the setup worked in theory but needs a couple of tweaks - mainly i plan to get the noah's tarp as well so that i...

The Triple Threat Grand Cherokee (2003 WJ)

thanks for the positive comments guys! as far as bumpers, they will probably be totally custom. there is no rear bumper that i like really. there are 2 front bumpers that i like (LSR and Iceland Offroad), but they both really kill approach angle too much.

The Triple Threat Grand Cherokee (2003 WJ)

thanks dude, it's all just time and money ;) - but for real, it's a slow process and i have tons left to do before i'll be bored with it, at least 2 more years worth of ideas in my head already!
