Making a cup of coffee stormy mornings

I personally do NOT like being holed up in anything, so I dress for the weather at hand and actually cook outside. Any of my storage boxes or water containers have at some point been used as a windbreak, as have natural features and even my vehicle. Something as simple as nesting my...

Rotopax - Is there something better I should be using?

You'll not find better than the NATO cans from AB. Durable, easy to carry and store, and I have never had one leak. If you live in an area where they enforce CARB-compliance, get the Wavian CARB nozzle only (several sources sell them separately). This nozzle is great at fuelling small engines at...

    Mud terrains or All terrains....?

Tire branding is usually a personal choice, and there are a few that I stay away from, but to your main question I say go with an aggressive AT. Case in point, something like the Cooper ST/Maxx: I have not driven this particular tire, yet, but just ordered a set for my RRC. The ST/Maxx has...

    2020 Defender Spy Shots....

Thank you for the recap. My ears perked up when I read the above comment, only to find it comes from a dealer. So is it a leaked truth, or over inflated dream.

    D1 rescue for my daughter

Hey Ron - good to see you’re still LR’ing! CB was the lift back in the day! James86004 - keep changing fluid, get a higher percentage bad fluid out. Also consider new trans cooler lines, yours are probably end-of-life (fire hazard) and this helps get a higher percentage of bad trans fluid out.

Hand Winch worth it or no?

I still carry a Jackall (hi-Lift style jack) in my Series Land Rover, and it does double-duty as a hand winch. Every now and then I question this method vs. a winch, but it’s a slow-n-steady, reliable recovery method and every component has multiple uses (jack, chains, winching kit, straps...

    Michelin XZL. Real world feedback?

I have XZL's on my 109 and they are a good for everything tire. I don't feel I can out-drive them at all, but you might on a more modern vehicle

    Reliability

We picked-up a 1995 RRC LWB a few years ago. It's our long-haul/trip vehicle and absolutley perfect for four people! I do carry a generous on-board spares kit and tools, which slightly reduces cargo space, but I can honestly say after the rocky road learning and baselining this vehicle, I know...

    Anyone fly fish in stillwater?

OP - Yes, 100% I only fish big rivers and lakes, maybe a pond or two. I use an 8wt rod and shooting head set-up, so light a running line and 10wt heads (floating, intermediate, LC). For my fishing this gives the most versatility, flexibility and ability to cover big water.

    Wrecked

If it's a gutter mount you run this risk. Ideally you should have vertical legs on the rear of the rack, connecting to the rear rain gutter. Some old-school Series/Defender racks had this feature... Bummer about the subject Disco, and scrapping that RRC breaks my heart.

    Front Runner Wolf Packs

I've had four Wolf Packs for close to six years now, and have not experienced any problems. The plastic has held up fine, even when exposed to a Boy Scout Troop for two years. I have a complete set of metal latches, but never installed them cause all the original plastic latches still work fine...

Your preferred Roof Rack straps, tie down options?

I generally use rope. I keep a few lengths (along with a selection of ratchet straps) in my tie down bag. I can rig rope to hold anything, and if needed I supplement with the straps. With rope you need to know your knots and when to use them, for straps and rope you also need to know their...
