2001 Discovery - short range expo build

Looks like the Safety Devices DII rack - its arguably the best, and it came with your truck! Removing O2 sensors - heat, spray with PB Blaster, repeat. It often helps to do this once or twice BEFORE you actually try to remove them - let the heat/cool/penetrant cycle do it's thing.

Cabela's Alaskan Guide 6 Person Geodesic Tent

Solo? My personal preference is as small a tent as possible. I find it much more convenient to have everything at arms reach, especially if you'll encounter weather. I'm not a cot fan, so a few inches clearance in a sitting position is all I need. Take the "person" ratings with a grain of salt...

    360 Degree Vehicle Lighting Options?

Hella AS115 dual bulb work lamp. This lamp has two 55W halogens bulbs and throws a wide pattern. I have the clear lens model mounted to the rear of my LR.

Jeep guy needs some LR info

Like most marques, LR's are what you make them, or what you let them be. After 150k miles and 16 years our D1 still ran it's original alternator, PAS box & pump, AC compressor and 4.0L engine. Aside from routine/preventative maintenance, I only replaced the trans due to a failed A-clutch. We...

    good kid sleeping bag?

Most of the common name brands offer kids size bags. If you go with a mummy style, make sure your kids are comfortable sleeping inside one - some kids need more room and/or are restless. For this reason a trip to an outdoor outfitter can make sense. My sons used Northface synthetic kids bags for...

    RE: Front Runner fuel cans

No personal experience with Front Runner, but plenty with your average jerry cans. I have noticed there is some variation in thickness of the replaceable lid seal. A slightly thicker seal can make it difficult to close. Maybe it's just the new seals?

    best wiper blade!!??

I too use Silblade wipers and have for over 15 years. The longest lifespan I have experienced is 8 years - badly distorted, permanent "parked" lean to the blade, but they still worked fine! One note, make sure you get the traditional, metal framed version, not the molded or extruded plastic...

Quickdraw Spotlight - MagCharger LED upgrade?

I would caution anyone from buying a mini-maglight product. About 3-4 years ago I bought one for each of my extended family members, thinking they would be a great emergency accessory. Every one of them failed - utter garbage! The twist bezel switch stops functioning with minimal use - like less...

Liquid fuel stoves - alternatives to coleman?

Ray, We routinely run two 3-burner Coleman stoves, plus a lantern off one 20-lb. propane cylinder. We fit a Coleman tree to 20lb. tank, mount the lantern on top, and connect two stoves to the lower tree connections. No problems running all six burners, boiling, heating full-size cast iron...

    Scrubber Blade

Bill, Like you, having tried multiple products, the only ones I can recommend are silicone wiper blades and Nanofilm Clarity Defender glass treatment. I am particularly fond of both when used together. I run this combo on all our vehicles, but unfortunately I have not been able to find silicone...

    Waterproof iPhone Case Review

My iPhone 5 has not left it's Lifeproof case since May 2013. I've camped all over the East Coast, stashing it in various pockets, bags, boots, hats, tents, etc. It even lived on the deck of a boat for a week in the Bahamas. In that time the finish has certainly worn, but no breakage...

Any recommendations on sleeping mat for a 6'2 220lb guy?

I've been camping for more than 34 years, averaging 30+ days/year sleeping on the ground, and I have had my share of sleeping pads. In that time I have found no better pad then Exped. Exped Mats I'm 6'4" and 225lbs, and have been using the Exped Synmat9 LW for the past three years. I have...
