NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

The Traction Jacks are out. I busted one last February playing in the snow/rocks and as it was an item that was donated to our club I didn't feel right going back and asking for a repair or replacement. I also found they didn't work as well as MaxTrax for what I was doing. I think they have...

The DiscoDavis Discovery 3 Build Thread

DD - it sounds like you ran into some of the same problems I had with fitment. To get it to line up side to side I had to cut and re-weld one of the mounts. It's been a while so i don't recall the specifics but I think I still have a built thread somewhere on the NCLR site with pics. I don't...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

I just ordered a set of 2 for the upcoming snow runs. I'm trying to decide where I want to carry them. I had my Traction Jacks (similar thing but they fold in half...not recommended unless you are tight on space) on the rack and have room for these up there as well, but the convenience factor...

Rubicon Trail / October, 2016 / Nikson Overland

I agree it's not for everyone, but at the same time I'd say everyone should do it at least once. It's the bucket-list trail for anybody in north america. Jeep didn't name their flagship (and arguably the most capable stock vehicle on the market) Rubicon for nothing.

    ARB intensity AR40 light bar

They had something fairly unique with the round LEDs, at least until the knock-offs showed up. But the light bar market is already saturated with everything from bargain basement to top quality. I think this will be a tough sell for them other than the fanboys who have to have that brand. I...

Maxtrax vs TRED vs Tracmats vs X-Trax vs X-Jack

I checked your site but must not have clicked through all color options as I saw a big 'n/a' when looking. My bad I suppose. <edit> Sorry, not your site after all. I was looking at Sierra Expeditions I believe. I probably wouldn't normally have clicked a yota-specific link so maybe that's...

Rubicon Trail / October, 2016 / Nikson Overland

Here's the write-up. I'm not much of a photographer but there's a link to my pics in the thread. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/159420-An-LR3-on-the-Rubicon?highlight=rubicon

Rubicon Trail / October, 2016 / Nikson Overland

    >I believe that anyone on a 4x4 with winch & good tires can make it through the trail, only question is how much body damage are they willing to take on their rig, and I'm not talking about busted taillight or a scratch on a bumper. I'd hesitate to say this. On the one hand, yes just about...

Except, you know, that nobody has them in stock. :(

    Official OZTENT review

I carry mine on the roof rack of my LR3. It's an RV4 (would just go ahead and get the RV5 if I were doing it again....why not have a few extra inches of space?) so there's no way it's going to fit inside the vehicle. Never had any problems with it. It's held on with a couple ROCstraps front...

    Suggested inverter/chargers?

I've used plenty of the 1800w Xantrex ProSine inverter/chargers with no failures. I've probably installed a dozen of them over the years on smaller boats where we don't need a lot of power. For a van, 1800w should be more than enough. I doubt I'd bother with anything under 1000w myself...if I...

    TepuiFest 2016

Hey, that looks familiar.... I was in the grey LR3 leading the group up the hill, then playing around at the quarry. Man I've never seen so many yotas in one place before! I thought it was ToyotaFest! I had to bail out early - I was sick all weekend and could barely talk half the time, but...

Maxtrax vs TRED vs Tracmats vs X-Trax vs X-Jack

Well the snows are starting in the Sierras so it's time to replace my dead Traction Jacks with a better solution. I was all set to go with MaxTrax based on using a friend's set last year but the new Tred Pro looks promising. I still haven't seen anybody report on them though - are they better...

    Suggested inverter/chargers?

The first question is what do you need to power? That will determine how large your inverter needs to be. You are correct that 3000w is pretty big. That's the size I would put on a good size yacht and waaay more than I would expect in a van. And you're also right that a single group 31...

Looking for a random nylon/plastic bit in the lower tailgate

BTW, don't know where you are in the bay area but there are quite a few pick-n-pull options near-by. http://www.picknpull.com/location_search.aspx?Distance=100&Address=94607&Division=All You didn't say what model the part was for but I'm guessing RRC?

Looking for a random nylon/plastic bit in the lower tailgate

Try giving Graeme a call at RoverWare: http://www.roverware.us/ He may not have it in stock, but he can get much more stuff than what he has on his website. He's also local to you - just down by San Carlos. I know he just got back from a trip to the middle east so he may be a bit behind, but...

LR3 owners sound off, which tires?

I've posted previously about my Duratrac experience. I don't hate them, but I don't plan to buy them again. I found they didn't hold up to rock crawling. After 2 years and maybe 25K miles (I forget exactly) they were chunking and tearing badly. You could literally tear pieces of tread off...

    Project Victory_Overland 08 LR3 Build Thread!

People have asked if/when I would get rid of my ARB since I've been fairly vocal about it's shortcomings for my application. This might be the sort of thing that would do it. If I could drop weight, gain winch access, gain approach angle, and have a bolt-on/separately removable bull bar so I...

    Land Rover LR3 18" Wheels...Advice Please

Curious to know if that wheel is hub-centric like the OEM? I've seen plenty of generic aftermarket wheels that claim to fit based only on lug pattern but few that are actually hub centric. Just pop over to ebay and you'll find any number of wheels that 'claim' to fit. They also claim to fit...
