Whale hot water heater tank or Isotemp?

If the square shape works for your application there are many options available as that's a standard size in the marine world. Here's a sample: http://www.westmarine.com/search?Ntt=water+heater (you can often beat WM pricing, it's just an easy site to reference) I've used most brands at one...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

A friend here in NorCal is running one on his LR4. It took some mod'ing but he got it up and running. One of the big changes was upgrading the transfer pump as the supplied unit is far too slow. I think he did a write-up on it here but would have to dig around to find it.

Soooo....I got stuck! Any recovery advice?

Yeah, you can use the tow strap as an extension for the recovery strap if you have to, but I would avoid it if possible. Hopefully it doesn't have metal hooks on the ends; those things scare me. I've broken a cheap tow strap (eye tore out) and it snapped pretty good. With the weight of a...

Looking for battery options now that Diehard Platinums are discontinued

I recently made the change from a Platinum (Odyssey) to a Northstar, both group 31. Happy with it so far. Honestly if you're running stock and don't have a lot of demand I'd say there's little need for an 'exotic' battery. For a little cost savings, assuming you are planning to go AGM, I'd...

Soooo....I got stuck! Any recovery advice?

Something like the Wyeth Scott is what you would need to move a vehicle. The sort of come-along you find at Home Depot/Lowes/Harbor Freight/etc is pretty much useless for recovery work. They're handy for other odd jobs around the home/ranch/etc but don't buy one thinking it's going to move...

do it yourself - scepter gas can spout

So how well does it pour with no vent? Seems like it would be slow going.

Soooo....I got stuck! Any recovery advice?

As a kid, dad let me drive his '56 Case in the field next to the house. I didn't understand differential braking and got on a muddy side-hill I couldn't turn back up. I decided my best bet was to gas it and try to get through the creek at the bottom of two hills. That didn't work so well. I...

Soooo....I got stuck! Any recovery advice?

First, don't bother with your basic hardware store come-along. It's not much of a recovery tool. If you have some other uses for it sure, but don't buy one just for this. Second, it looks like there's solid ground just behind you, correct? If so, a simply yank with a kinetic strap will have...

    275/70/18 on LR3

I'm running the same size in a Cooper STT Pro MT tire with Johnson Rods (2.5" lift). I didn't do any additional trimming beyond what I had already done for the 275/65-18 Duratracs I was running before. And yes, should I drop it to the bumpstops I'm going to be stuck. I have the Lucky8...

    LR3 emergency "fixes"

There is - it's call 'build mode' on the GAP tool :sombrero:

    Project Victory_Overland 08 LR3 Build Thread!

Also bear in mind not all 285s will be the same actual measurement. As an example, I used to run a 275/65-18 and switched to a 275/70-18. In theory they should both be the same width but the new tire is almost .5" wider.

    LR3 emergency "fixes"

Just as an FYI, if the parking brake locks on sometimes simply disconnecting the battery will convince it to let go. Had to do this in AZ last year...I was about to go for the wire loop when a buddy suggested the battery trick. Worked fine and saved me a bit of effort.

Post pictures of your Land Rover.

I'm running 275-70-18 - 33.3" tall. They're Cooper STT Pros. Not what I'd recommend for a daily driver, but it's doable with basically the standard trimming routine. I'm still running air, so if I drop to the bumpstops with this size tire I'm immobile. I have ideas cooking regarding that though.

    Best for $10,000?

Not for 'nuthin, but there's no reason to spend $3K for an air compressor repair on an LR3. In fact, about the only way to spend that kind of money is to be completely hands off and ignorant of the vehicle and blindly hand it over to a dealer with a blank check. Early model compressors can be...

The DiscoDavis Discovery 3 Build Thread

That pretty much sums it up. As long as the mechanical bits are still functional the GAP tool can take manual control and get it back up. Of course if you've actually broken a line/bag/compressor nothing short of the Green Oval kit is going to help (and even that won't sort a bad bag or line...

    Sears Diehard Platinum 31M issues

I just went through this as well. Aside from not holding a charge correctly, there were small cracks developing around both posts on mine. Odd, especially since I don't even use the negative SAE post, just the threaded stud. It was about 9 months old and they took it without even testing it...

The DiscoDavis Discovery 3 Build Thread

One fly in the ointment - just running the compressor won't lift the truck. You still need to control the valves front/rear. I found this out a couple years ago when a friend's LR4 failed at White Rock Lake. I pulled the relay and manually ran the compressor with a jumper wire but it didn't...

    LR3 without airbags??

No, Zelatore has a glass roof with many, many cracks in it all spreading from a rock chip I picked up in Sedona a couple years ago. I really should get that fixed one of these days, but with the rack you can't see it much from the top and the rear seats are never used so you don't see it from...

    2000w Inverter Charger price choke

I've installed plenty of inverters in 2000-4000w size range and the last 2 were both Magnums. Hard to beat them on a dollar per watt basis and I've never had one fail. For the smaller stuff under 2000w I usually go with Xantrex ProSine, but I haven't needed something in that size range in a...
