We can easily drive 45-60mph fully loaded with the camper on some of the roughest roads around (think Death Valley). Increased tire sidewall is crucial (we are 37" tires on 17" wheels - next best would be 35s on 16" wheels). Air down (dictated by speed and weight). Upgraded suspension (this...
Factory insulation. Yep it's to keep the cold or heat out of the camper space. None of these campers are impressive for insulation. Thin walls. But it does much better than the Four Wheel Camper!
You don't need to alter the camper side or roof vents. Dust or bug infiltration is not an issue (as already explained).
The diagram showing air circulation under and above the fridge via the interior is what needs to be taped off. This keeps the exterior camper vents from allowing air to...
No changes to the exterior vents.
Open the exterior vent and disconnect the fridge power connection(s). The fridge is mounted to the camper via the front/face screws (around the fridge flange). Pull the fridge out. Place it in the dinette area (make sure to have area cleared). On the...
Very exciting! We love our Liberty camper (especially after the modifications). Be sure to share how yours works out!
The Dometic compressor fridge does vent inside. They are designed to be installed in sealed cabinets (no exterior ventilation). NorthStar does include the roof and side vents...
@JayGarlido - Thanks for sharing! It's great to hear your enjoying the Truck Camper. These rigs can be extremely capable... Plus it's easy to modify the truck platform to handle whatever terrain or obstacles desired.
Awesome! We'd love to. It would be fun to explore... we're working on a real estate project in Kingman. Shooting to wrap it up in April. Will see about breaking free for a trip.
Doing some maintenance on the Yamaha RMAX this weekend.
FYI the 2017+ Super Cab is nearly the same dimensions as the 2016 and older Crew Cabs. It's funny as all our growing up we got stuck in the back of a 90s extended cab and never complained... and there was no rear door and cramped. Just saying.
There's really nothing to gain with the warranty...
If you really want to off road... get the shorter wheelbase Super Cab @ 148". You can add the factory rear locker to any trim (it's FAST and works 2wd or 4wd without stopping). 4.30 gears (these are thick cut HD gears - perfect for 37s). Add aftermarket front locker; lots of options for HP...
For those of you wondering... 2017+ Super Duty will fit 35.75" diameter spare in the factory location with factory cable winch at full street pressure. 37" tires do not measure 37" diameter. For instance a brand new 37" BFG KO2 on 8.5" wheel measures 36" at full pressure. Our slightly used...
It just depend on the use. Light duty aluminum will break given harsh use. I looked into those for our rock crawler Tacoma. Ended up with a used high rise fiberglass canopy. It held up fine to all the hard core rock crawling. Frame flex could be an issue depending on the truck. 2017+ Super...
I'd add a couple things to consider. First there is no reward or gold star for not using 4wd. It seems that winches are often looked at similarly 4wheelers. It's a tool. Use it if you have it.
4wd needs to be engaged monthly and exercised. Otherwise it may not work when you need it...
They did get a bit short... We have a Tacoma extended cab 6ft bed. Super Duty has the best short bed @ 6ft 9in. I'd absolutely buy another short bed SD. The long beds make the WB too long. Horrible turning radius.
I'd go to the F450 or F550 if a long bed was required. It has the Super...
I'm sure it can work... I typically try to follow the manual unless there's a reason not to. I'm guessing the lighter weight fluid is for economy (not certain). Rear differential is synthetic; front is standard (factory). Front gear oil is the same for all the super duty (with D60). It is a...
Our Ford F250 Super Duty manual recommends to service and change the differential gear oil after 150,000 miles! That's nuts! Oil is cheap insurance to keep your mechanical parts functioning properly.
I'd recommend changing your differential gear oil after 30-50k miles. Our truck has nearly...
Message me with details the month before. Will see how our schedule lines up. Typically we avoid big groups. 3-5 rigs is ideal.
Longer wheelbase is more stable and planted on steep terrain. Watch a 2 door Jeep or Samurai and then a Gladiator or Tacoma on the same hill climb.
There will...
Sounds like fun! Let's do a video...
Realistically, there is no perfect off road vehicle. Everything is a compromise. Long wheelbase = stability and hill climb advantage. Short wheelbase = better break over and turning radius. Increased weight and larger size is detrimental in most cases...
