How is your truck set up for an expedition??

I'm trying to figure out, if I'm in the UK, am I in the east or the west...? Hang on, where's my GPS? :)

    Michael's new (old!) G-wagon

I've also read that adding a turbo is feasible, and I'll be looking into it. Something needs doing! True-ish. And although the G-wagen doesn't need to articulate like a classic Range Rover, it could do with a bit more axle movement. Removing the anti-roll bars might be a first step, but I'll...

    Hole in one! (no, I don't mean I got a puncture...) :)

Post pictures of your Land Rover.

Fantastic pics - I love deserts! Gratuitous pics below, since, as Teri-Ann says, every post on this thread deserves a pic if possible! Sahara Desert (Mauretania) Cameroon road in the dry season... Spectacular landscape in Angola! Campsite at Spitzkop in Namibia

    Expedition Shovels

That's very funny! Who'd have thought? LOL

LOL, yes, I did say they weren't good! :)

    Michael's new (old!) G-wagon

Underbody shots And as requested, a few of the undercarriage! Not ideal, as it wasn't very high off the ground, and the light was fading. And it was dirty! Front Right Rear Left

    Michael's new (old!) G-wagon

No, what you're seeing is the sump/steering guard and the recovery pintle in the bumper (both standard factory). Actually, I don't have the pin - for some reason someone mounted a CB aerial where the pin goes! I would imagine changing diff ratios on a G-wagen would be verrrry expensive. But...

How is your truck set up for an expedition??

That's the crux of the matter. I'm confident of my own navigational abilities (and even more so of my wife's) without a GPS, but every seasoned traveller has been in the situation,at some point or other, where they just aren't sure if they're on the right road, or if they're at the meeting place...

How is your truck set up for an expedition??

Why?? If the coordinates are known, it seems an excellent idea to help avoiding misunderstandings! I agree that a GPS isn't a substitute for other navigational skills, but don't throw the baby away with the bathwater - it's a fantastically useful device. Likewise, it's true that people can get...

    Expedition Shovels

The tools shown at the bottom of this page are great (and cheap). The shafts are steel around wood. The handle part of the D is wood. They last forever, and every couple of years, one can just put a quick coat of hammerite on them to keep them looking good. Pretty much anything used by the...

'69 Land Rover Forward Loader Over Lander 4x4 motorhome

Yes, I've seen a few of the Over-Lander Series 2B conversions in South Africa. Very nice trucks. The 2B is quite impressive off road, with its massive ground clearance. But slow and heavy, of course, when converted to a camper. I don't know what diff ratios they use, and whether the axles have...

    Michael's new (old!) G-wagon

Took the G-wagen out for it's first off-road day yesterday. Unfortunately, it was miserable, rainy weather, and the other people I was going to bring with me, decided not to go. So I didn't take the 130 along for comparison - just the G. This was the first time I'd been to this site, and I was...

    700 BHP Brabus V12 G

For an off road vehicle, though, power stops being an advantage after a certain level. I can't think of any off-road situation where 500kW could be put to use! As for 1000Nm of torque, well that can be obtained through gearing (though you need a fair amount of horsepower for it to be useful)...

    Expedition Shovels

LOL - that's too funny! I think my (expensive, I thought!) shovel cost about 20% of that, and I would expect it to last indefinitely. In fairness, I don't use it often, it's really for emergencies, but then shovels that are in use in a gravel quarry, for example, will wear out in months no...

    700 BHP Brabus V12 G

Some more pics of that superb, absolutely pointless truck! As someone mentioned - the only way they could get that engine in there was to melt it down and pour it in!

    Spare gas vs. "drop tanks."

Ha ha ha! Yes, I discovered the origin of the word "politics". Apparently it is made up of the word "poly" meaning "many", and "ticks", meaning "blood sucking parasites"! :ylsmoke:

    should I buy a G?

What you were endorsing was this comment: "Buy what you want and use it, use it up for this price. Lifes too short." In other words, the 3K is well spent, just to play with the truck, no matter what. What I'm saying is that 3K is too much for the likes of me to spend on a toy that I will just...

    Michael's new (old!) G-wagon

Interesting - the G prices are roughly in line with what you'd expect in the UK. But Defenders here are less than half the price of an equivalent age/condition G, whereas in North America it looks like Defenders are quite a bit more expensive. Odd, considering both vehicles involve similar...
