    Roofnest

My point being the landed cost of a Roofnest is much lower than that of a Camp King, Alu Cab, etc., as the manufacturing costs are obviously much more for a higher end tent. To each their own. Also, not sure what vehicle you're putting this on, but I don't see how 50 extra pounds is...

    Roofnest

From what I've heard, it's like everything else, you get what you pay for. Also, not sure how you feel about a chinese made RTT. I just bought a Camp King today. Buy right the first time!

Hard Shell RTT - Alu Cab vs GFC vs Camp King

Well, I made the decision and ordered the Camp King today! After seeing it at Rhino Adventure Gear I can say that it's MUCH better than an Alu Cab. The build quality is superb. Cannot wait to take delivery!

Hard Shell RTT - Alu Cab vs GFC vs Camp King

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not into an IKamper.

Hard Shell RTT - Alu Cab vs GFC vs Camp King

Man, the more I look at the Camp King the more I want it. AND I can pick it up here in San Diego! Tough decision...

Hard Shell RTT - Alu Cab vs GFC vs Camp King

I checked out to the Camp King and do like it, but it is wider (about 1-2") and weighs about 10 lbs more than the Alu Cab. Looks like there's a dealer for their products in San Diego, so I may try to visit them in the next few days to check it out. Good info, the fuel economy is what it is...

Hard Shell RTT - Alu Cab vs GFC vs Camp King

Thanks for the info on the GFC. Graeme from GFC said the most I can fit in is a 1" mattress topper. I looked at the Autohomes as well, but not sure that I'm into them. What are your thoughts on the Alu Cab?

Hard Shell RTT - Alu Cab vs GFC vs Camp King

Agree, I'm just curious if I can leave anything inside. Apparently the wait times are June 2019. The problem I have with the JB XXL is the width. That thing would hang so far off my rack. What would make you choose the Alu Cab over the GFC?

Hard Shell RTT - Alu Cab vs GFC vs Camp King

UPDATE: If you're reading this post, you can skip the data points below and just order a Camp King! Chat with Joost at Rhino Adventure Gear and he'll get you taken care of! I'm in the market for an RTT and have narrowed it down to the Alu Cab Gen 3 RTT and the Go Fast Campers RTT. To give...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

That is beautiful. Can you provide some additional specs, such as AH size of battery, component list, etc.? Thanks!

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

This is where it starts to not make sense to go DIY. When you add up the cost of the components and the footprint they take up it's impossible to contain them in a compact, portable option. The commercial solutions are looking better as this thread goes on.

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

So what’s the best way to charge one of these from a 12V source (driving in the car)

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

Lots of good inputs here, but some of this seems overkill. I wish someone would just develop a simple, user friendly LFP system with 100AH that I can charge via Solar, AC, or DC and came with an inverter that put out 1500w continuously. What are the suggestions to get these items into as...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

Agree. The problem I'm running into is the whole cost/benefit analysis. Is it really worth it to ******** around with all of this? Does the cost outweigh the benefit or vice versa? The Goal Zero 1000 lithium should meet my needs, I just wish it would charge faster. The fact that I can get it...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

Agree that's the challenge here with this setup. I've got a Pelican 1510 Case (http://www.pelican.com/us/en/product/cases/carry-on-case/protector/1510) that's been sitting around for a few years (bought it when I traveled to the Middle East for work years ago). It's begging me to mount some...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

Got it, would make sure that nearly everything has the proper wire gauge and fuse for this setup anyways. From what I've read doing an inverter/charger all-in-one setup isn't as reliable as separating the two functions. AIMS is normally a good product, but it appears that there are several...

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

Can you post links to what you're suggesting for the AC Charger/Inverter in one? Also - Are you saying just plug in 12V from the car to the Solar input that goes to the MPPT charge controller?

DIY Portable Power Pack (aka solar generator) vs. Commercial off-the-shelf options

I've been doing some extensive research on the available options for a portable power pack / solar generator (whichever you prefer to call it) and the option of building it myself. I'm looking for something close to 100AH of available power and that comes with a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4)...
