Is it worth the hassel for an extra inch???

If it for street looks, go for it. Otherwise i would think twice before I took such a nice truck some place that one inch would make the difference between making it and eating it. That's what beaters are for.

    Old's Cool

Sweet rig. I do love this dirtbag thread. I have two dirt bag trucks, a 88 4x4 5sp sbsc 4 banger Toyota and a 87 4x4 4sp sbsc straight 6 f150. Toyota has more paint left than ford, so ford has most dirt bag look. Because of size , Toyota is most capable off-road. Both have had a life time of...

    Ram 2500 5.9L Cummins Feedback

I had the 99 5 speed short bed quad cab 4x4, still in family. Get 2 sets of heavy duty tire chains for front and back, and your mods end there. 19.5 mpg is average. No cold start issues, but use cold weather fuel additive for November elk hunts. Only concern is to watch is side hills, if the...

1992 f150 daily driver and adventure rig.

I got the same truck a month ago, but a baby blue 1987 with 3.55 rear. Also has an open diff, which I will also need to change out some day. Rusted hood, clear coat falling off. Extra bonus was driver's side front body mount was torn free, which got welded yesterday. I finished shocks (front has...

Larger Tires vs Lower Gearing for an Expedition Vehicle (2.7 Tacoma)

Small differences in gearing become magnified at high altitude. If any of your expected travels will be mountain roads at 8000' plus, effects of bigger heavier tires will be more noticeable than on the low flats.

If you were to start all over with a brand new truck, which would you choose?

Chevy with 5.3, g80 locker, and gentleman's choice on extended or crew cab. Why? I got that same combo on a 2000, still have it, and it is still running tight after 215,000 miles. Got another in 2010, has 75,000 miles, again no issues and gets 20 mpg on freeway. Both are straight stock down to...

The dieimma of purchasing a new Toyota

My fishing and hunting area is eastern Nevada and southern Utah on public - as in federal- land. No off roading is legal, but some of the legal roads can be difficult to the point of trashing a nice new truck. A full size stocker will get me 80% of the places I need to go, I have a beater 88 sc...
