Thanks, sounds like good advice but for now it works so i just go with it unless things change for me down the line. Mcstiggs

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

Understood, however..... While I believe your advice to be good and true, my frame ground does work fine (for now) so I'll stick with that unless things change for me. I even went down to my local automotive electric specialty shop and he saw no reason why my ground location should matter...

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

Hold on to yer hats gang, it's not a ground issue! Well, call me a dufus but I figured it out. The problem turned out to be the 12g wire to the fuse box. I had connected it to one of the only two 10 amp fuses with an add'a'fuse, (because the add'a'fuse cautions to only use their product with no...

    Question aboot voltage @ isolator

Oh sure, I most certainly understand the importance of the negative ground which is why I bothered to grind down to fresh metal in order to (supposedly) achieve it. It's just, the neg terminal of the truck battery is connected to where? The chassis of course, so therefore I thought any ground...

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

Yea, all the connections are rock solid. I even double checked and re-grinded the ground spot on the frame. It's nothing but fresh, bare steel. I'm at a loss. the only thing I can try now is take the ground wire up to the truck battery. that just means another trip to town for more wire though...

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

That would make sense. Yea, i did grind the frame down to bare metal.

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

With a fully charged battery, the truck turned off, the truck reads 12.79 and the house reads 12.80. With the truck at idle after 10 minutes, the truck reads 14.78 and the house reads 12.85. So I guess if the isolator (a 200amp isolator) is meant to only provide a slight trickle, I guess it's...

    Question aboot voltage @ isolator

Thanks for the replies guys. Here are my specs. With a fully charged battery, the truck turned off, the truck reads 12.79 and the house reads 12.80. Question aboot voltage @ isolator

Hi All, I just hooked up a battery isolator system complete with solar. My question is, shouldn't the voltage reading on the house battery read the same or similar to the starter battery when the truck is running? For instance, when I have the truck idling, I get a reading of 14.44v at the...

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

Question about voltage readings @ isolator and house batts. Howdy Gang, I just used this most excellent thread to hook up the isolator system complete with solar. My question is, shouldn't the voltage reading on the house battery read the same or similar to the starter battery when the truck...

Strange electrical issues when switching from truck batteries to dedicated deep cycle

I had them on a trickle charge for a couple days and they are brand new, first time out. They tested @ about 12.9v.

Strange electrical issues when switching from truck batteries to dedicated deep cycle

Sounds reasonable but would not the furnace fan and igniter share the same ground? Thanks, Mcstiggs

Strange electrical issues when switching from truck batteries to dedicated deep cycle

So here's what I'm dealing with. I gots me a '98 Four Wheel hawk camper. I installed two 6v golf cart batteries (costco brand) wired in series. This is supposed to be the best arrangement with regards to max amperage. This setup is not wired into the truck charging system yet, It is a...

Scored me a FWC 'Hawk'! Now I have a question about storm flap velcro issues.

Heh.....yea. I'm the guy. You must have been the "6:30 appointment". (i was the 5:30) Well I don't know if I was the first to respond (I saw it just a couple hours after he posted it) but I was the most persistent he said. Good luck on your search. I certainly know how frustrating it can be...

Scored me a FWC 'Hawk'! Now I have a question about storm flap velcro issues.

Yea I saw that one available as I was looking all over the state but it's older than what I want. I was looking for a mid/late 90's or better. Also, that price is a bit steep for it's age (which is most likely why it hasn't sold yet.) I mean, I scored a '98 model for only $3,800. Thanks for...
