Low buck 4Runner ($4K) for high school student.

Not sure on Cali, but I found my 3rd gen for $3k. If you can find the 99+ there were lots of creature comforts, and you get OBDII and even more safety stuff as well as the 5VZ-FE, and some 3rd gens give you the rear locker. Either way, biggest thing with older vehicles is maintenance history...

    Supercharged 5VZFE and cooling

With the S/C did you put in a lower rated Thermostat? I think the 5VZ comes standard with a 175* but I put in a 170* with mine. granted we don't have a lot of mountains, but even on the hot & humid days mine never gets above 195...

To buy or not to buy(98' 4Runner)

I'd pass on that. Anyone else notice the gas tank skid is 95% rusted away. It's only the mounts left!

Help choosing the best OME lift for my 4Runner?

If you don't want lift, I'd suggest the 99 tall coils as well. You could even pair them with the Tacoma or Tundra Bilstein shocks in front that have the different perches. If you want it a little more, you can put it up a notch. Would ride really well too. You could do the same 99 coils in the...

    4Runner Roof Racks

But what about the track at the front? Does it just rest on the roof?

    4Runner Roof Racks

What attaches the track to the roof for the full length like that? Did you have to drill holes? That's actually looking pretty nice! Do you notice a lot of noise?

    4Runner Roof Racks

what year/generation I guess that info would be good to know too. What year 4runner are we looking for? Prinsu doesn't have a 3rd gen rack that I've seen yet

    4Runner Roof Racks

Here's some info: Clicky Not a lot of options for full length. I really wish FrontRunner would make one for the 3rd gen... only one missing from their site. K9's are pretty nice, but sit a little high for my liking. Gobi is super nice, but they are all $$$$$. Baja seems to be the best...

    98 4runner front spring recomendations

I did the Tundra 5100 adjustable shocks with the Tundra TRD coils, but have also heard good things of the Eibach coils too for the front. Have no complains. I'm at 2.5" or so in the front on the lowest perch of the 5100's, but the second perch should support the added weight well. They're a...

    seanpistol's 01 Tundra

Awesome thread and excellent execution of your Tundra! It's amazing to see it change! Have you thought of a sled deck!? Seeing your other fab skills, it wouldn't be too much, and make it swap-able with your bed rack!

    Is that Tiedown strong enough?

Not sure about your needs, but for me, a barrier isn't an option. I do agree with overbuilding, but within reason. I'd look at the factory tie-downs and do my best to replicate that. (I think most of them are just a weld nut on the underside of the body) If you're concerned about a bolt and...

    Is that Tiedown strong enough?

Yeah, that would be awesome! I'd imagine the factory tie downs have to be solid enough for anything we might throw at them. I think they even work similarly to carseat anchors (??) Not sure though. I'll definitely have to check into those though. I like how you recessed them too. As long as...

    Is that Tiedown strong enough?

Don't have a lot of experience with crashes, but I do know that T-nuts through 3/4" plywood are solid, especially the screw in t-nuts (not the pound ins with the teeth) I've built climbing walls and you can put a ton of weight on them. Even at bad angles with forces about 6" off the main...

Which Roof Rack would you Buy?

K9's are pretty cool! I wish they didn't sit as high as they do, and I'm not sure on my feelings of the track it mounts to. Do you have to replace the existing and drill holes/reinforce the roof? Lastly, both of them don't have any options for a sunroof insert...

Why no SAS on "expo" type trucks???

I also agree that an IFS can handle most 'expo' trails that people are looking for, while providing a more comfortable ride on gravel, forest service roads, logging roads, and the highways that people travel to get to these places. Also, I think the IFS has an advantage (at least in my 4runner)...

Which Roof Rack would you Buy?

Frontrunners are awesome, but sadly no options for a 3rd gen T4R. Prinsu design studio has some cool stuff for Tacomas if you haven't seen that! And I've heard he's coming out with a 3rd gen option.

Roof Rack for 3rd Gen 4Runner

I don't think you'd have a problem with any of them. Just depends on what you're looking for. I haven't ever heard of any of them breaking. What are you looking to do with it?

Roof Rack for 3rd Gen 4Runner

Good luck finding one less that $1K for a full length. Other than the Baja rack (I wish they made the 'utility rack' for the 3rd gen) Here's what I've found: Equipt Gobi Baja Probably the cheaper options Prinsu I think this guy is making one for the 3rd gen as well. it's a 3/4 length Not a...

Any insight to a storage solution for my 3rd gen?

Wow! Thank you so much for the Ron Paulk reference! I'll definitely be using that to my advantage. Especially just learning sketch-up! Love the idea of minimalism and simplicity. Already getting ideas for this! For electronics, I really am not sure what I want to do for that on my runner. I...

Any insight to a storage solution for my 3rd gen?

Definitely like your ideas here! I wasn't planning on slides for the large drawers for sure. Way too much $$$, and I guess there are a lot of catches for them. I like the cantilevered setup too. Big fan of K.I.S.S. Maybe even rig up an 'auto-catch' to prevent the drawers from pulling too far...
