On our essential kit list is, don't laugh, a good old fashioned rubber hot water bottle! :) If my feet are cold I am cold, so it is great for those really cold nights to use it to pre-warm the bed or sleeping bag, then put it down at the end under my cold feet for a comfortable nights sleep...
