How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

for those of you with batteries in the truck bed/far away-how are you protecting the cables? I was looking at nylon sleeving, but didn't know if that would end up holding more debris. Or just secure the wire against the frame well?

Okay cool. Didn't know if different capacities would cause any issue. As for searching I just meant in this thread! Thanks for the quick reply.

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

as for charging/maintaining...can we use just one charger? I understand the batteries will be connected while charging, but is having two types and sizes of batteries an issue? Or would it be best to charge individually? Tried searching for tender or maintainer, couldn't find much.

I'll have more stuff to post up in a bit, but this is the 2" memory foam pad that I got off amazon. It DOES fit with the factory pad (folds up just fine). I was really really trying to find one that came with a cover, but I could only find one in a king size, so I skipped that for now. My wife...

been working on the tent/rack the past few days. I got the rack about 90% figured out, I was gonna do a fancy hinged system so I could get stuff under the tent, but the truck is wide enough to push the tent to one side and still have room on the other to get things in/out of the truck bed. Also...

Hmm, maybe a 2" will do it then, since you figure folded in half that saves me 2 inches from your setup. I guess pillows may be unreasonable-my wife has about 900 that go with us on every trip, so other than a storage container strapped to the roof I don't think we'll ever have "enough room...

Hmm, this is basically what I wanted to hear. I'm trying to keep everything self contained (pillows/sheets/topper) so it sounds like a 3in+2.5in factory one might be too much. I wonder how a 4" (and no factory pad) with sheets/pillows would do? That's the other thing, did you leave...

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

Hmm, I'm now thinking it may be best for me to get 2 smaller deep cycle, and run them in parallel? I don't have the room for a full size second battery under the hood, and I don't want a full size mounted lower/in possible damage area under the truck. If I did go this route, I'd have two...

Hey guys, my tent is to be delivered tomorrow or the next day, but I'm wondering about mattresses. I see some of you tossed a memory foam topper/replaced it all together. What is the thickest size I could go with? Either adding the foam on top, or just replacing the mattress all together? I've...

How to make a cheap isolated dual-battery setup for $50

if I used the blue sea ml acr, could I get away with using 10awg if I was only using the 2nd battery to power a fridge? I don't care (currently, funds limited) about using the second battery to jump start the truck or anything large-it would only be for small items (fridge, small power...

Glad to hear! I just placed my order, now the wait begins. Should be here before any planned trip though. Ladder is probably an issue with my setup as well, but I'll deal with that when it comes up.
