    2004 Tundra Adventure Cab - Build/Adventure Thread

So maybe I can utilize the oem 4wd button for that. I was reading on some of the 4Runner forums that t case engages before the ADD. If that’s the case I could use the t case switch to trigger the ADD system and not need an external switch. Going to read up on the FSM this evening..

Thanks for the information. I’ve checked this mod out but the thought of leaving it engaged all the bothers me. It sounds like people have been doing it with no issues but right now I’m saving that as a last resort.

    2004 Tundra Adventure Cab - Build/Adventure Thread

The way you setup your hubs is awesome. I just swapped out the a340f automatic with an r150f manual transmission from a 1998 Tacoma and I would like to get the manual transfer case switch to trigger the ADD to engage when I shift into 4wd but I’m not sure if the ADD needs to be engaged before...

Really liking how you set your truck up. How did you get your front differential to engage after installing the manual transfer case? I just did a complete manual transmission swap in mine and I now need to figure out how to get the ADD system to work with the manual transfer case.

Northbound Tundra, building a 5 speed manual transmission swapped 2001 Toyota Tundra with 2uzfe 4.7 liter engine into an overland adventure vehicle

You have a good point. It just as easy either way so I will see if it makes a difference. So far the only code is from the 4wd ADD system, which I need to get dialed in to make everything operate like factory. If anyone here is familiar with how to make this work smoothly it would definitely...

Northbound Tundra, building a 5 speed manual transmission swapped 2001 Toyota Tundra with 2uzfe 4.7 liter engine into an overland adventure vehicle

Here are some pictures of getting the transmission ready for installation. Stock r150f out of a 1998 Tacoma: Bellhousing removed: Ready for the adapter plate: Adding some RTV gasket so the adapter plate can seal it off: Comparing the adapter plate to the factory plate: Adapter plate...

Northbound Tundra, building a 5 speed manual transmission swapped 2001 Toyota Tundra with 2uzfe 4.7 liter engine into an overland adventure vehicle

Yeah, it definitely seemed like it was meant for it. There was even an extra clip on the firewall to hold the clutch line. That being said, the knockout was about an inch off so the stars were slightly miss aligned, lol Do you have a thread somewhere on your front hub conversion? If I do it I’d...

Northbound Tundra, building a 5 speed manual transmission swapped 2001 Toyota Tundra with 2uzfe 4.7 liter engine into an overland adventure vehicle

Thanks for sharing that thread. Pretty cool that kid did all of that when he was 17. I guess I got lucky that they used the same speed sensor on the r150f so it sounds like the only thing I will need to worry about is the ADD system.

And yes, the whole setup is about 2” shorter than the a340f. It seemed to place the shifter just about perfect.

Northbound Tundra, building a 5 speed manual transmission swapped 2001 Toyota Tundra with 2uzfe 4.7 liter engine into an overland adventure vehicle

That’s awesome that you did the j shift mod. How are you going about engaging the front ADD? I still need to get my sensors setup correctly to tell the 4wd module what’s going on and I would really like to make it engage the ADD when I shift into 4wd, but I’m not sure if the ADD needs to engage...

Northbound Tundra, building a 5 speed manual transmission swapped 2001 Toyota Tundra with 2uzfe 4.7 liter engine into an overland adventure vehicle

I have the ECU set in Park mode right now. It lets it start but I’m waiting to get my driveline finished this week so I haven’t gotten to drive it yet to see what codes might come up when it starts moving.

Northbound Tundra, building a 5 speed manual transmission swapped 2001 Toyota Tundra with 2uzfe 4.7 liter engine into an overland adventure vehicle

Thank you, I’m pretty stoked about it. It was not a direct bolt on. I used the original bellhousing from the automatic transmission and an adapter plate to mate the bellhousing to the r150f transmission. I then drilled holes in the bellhousing to run lines through for a hydraulic throwout...

Northbound Tundra, building a 5 speed manual transmission swapped 2001 Toyota Tundra with 2uzfe 4.7 liter engine into an overland adventure vehicle

Here is a thread about building a 1st Tundra into an adventure vehicle. After previously owning a 1987 4Runner and also a 1992 Toyota extra cab pickup, I knew I wanted to stick with a Toyota for their relentless reliability. My first thought was Tacoma. I had never owned one but had driven them...

I’m finishing up with converting my 2001 tundra to a manual transmission. Pretty sure this is the only 4.7 liter v8 tundra with a manual transmission, but if anyone here knows of another one please let me know because I still have a few bugs to work out and I want to complete it like it came...
