Any longtime riders quit for good?

8 here, :sombrero: Christmas morning 1986: OP, you're not letting anyone down buddy. The roads aren't the same as they were 10 years ago, let alone 20 or 30. Two wheels has always been more risky than four, but anymore it's just asking to be a statistic (I'd much rather be a person than just a...

    Show me Springbar Tent pron!

It seems the Highline poles are 3-piece instead of two, so they're only about 3 feet long folded up. I don't bother stuffing a tent all the way back into it's bag between bivouacs. I just roll it up in the ground tarp (the cheap silver tarp shown) and bungie cord it to the basket. I plan to do...

    Show me Springbar Tent pron!

Yeah, Dman, we already have a big nylon tent and it does the job: After seeing my buddies Kodiak in action, I'm wanting a canvas tent. After comparing Kodiaks to Springbars, I want a Springbar, but still looking for "previously loved" rather than paying for new. The silver tarp is where the...

Tire Recommendations for wide temperature ranges

I run studs on my Mud Claws (on the J-10), but 1) it's not my Daily Driver and 2) my HOME is on the front range, but I LIVE in the high country! Black ice exists year round if you get high enough. That's why studs are legal 365 in Colorado.

Best station wagon for expedition other than Subaru?

The thing about Subi's is that they carved themselves out a pretty niche market. The competition is all the cookie cutter crossover SUVs, but none of them are a Subaru Outback. My advice would be to take a hard look at what you expect from your overland rig build and whether a Subi Outback is...

Tire Recommendations for wide temperature ranges

The Michelin LTX (M+S) is by far the best all-year Colorado tire on the market. It's only downside is that it doesn't LOOK aggressive, despite the fact that it grips as well as any other AT in the muck and rocks and 1000% better on ice. Seriously, I've never worn a set out, they get 10+ years...

    Personal Items

I've tried a couple things but found a dufflebag to be most utilitarian. I used a military footlocker for a while, but it takes up a lot of space and it's clunky so it has to be packed carefully to not be a missile. Coming from the Army and being a thru-hiker I used a backpack too, but when you...

    Show me Springbar Tent pron!

It's hard to quantify a lot of it, but I've been in one a for a rainstorm and it's a whole other experience. Canvas doesn't amplify the sound of rain to a defining roar, wind doesn't sound like Archer slapping the crap out of Ceril, and while I don't know any actual r-factor, it's definitely...

    Ford Expedition advice

That's exactly why I'm folling this thread martin.:) I've done some google research and haven't found a smoking gun. My theory is a combination of market saturation from Ford pushing fleet sales along with low product recognition is driving the resale value down. Just some quick math, there are...

    Ford Expedition advice

I'm following this thread! I'll be looking for something bigger in my fleet as we get closer to adopting a kid or two (already have one and I love being a dad, but having a pregnant wife was harder than 16 years of military life, haha! Hoping to pick up one or two more from foster care.). As...

Compressible Sleeping Bag for Backpacking (Women's)

Affordable/Compressible/Warm: Pick 2.:p My wife's backpacking bag is a 20* Big Agnes mummy, but when it gets cold it turns into "my" Big Agnes and she takes my 0* Ecogear mummy (which is much heavier and bulkier, but I don't like being cold either). If you don't want to risk your lady getting...

now this interesting, Lifetime Products 55 QUART HIGH PERFORMANCE COOLER

I'm still perfectly satisfied with my 20 year old Igloo and dry ice, but I've been keeping my eyes open on a Rotomolded cooler. I also think it's ridiculous that Yeti charges $400 for Chinese cooler and puts a big honkin' "Designed in TEXAS!!!!" sticker on it like it matters. Chris Jansen sings...

“One size fits all” stove/camp cooking setup?

Yup! just like INSAYN, I picked up three from CL, in one Saturday afternoon all for under $50 total. I took them all apart thinking I'd build one good stove and have leftover spare parts. Turns out I cleaned them up, put them back together and they all worked beautifully! The only difference I...

“One size fits all” stove/camp cooking setup?

Since you're one of those weirdos that likes pictures, and since I've neglected to lay all this stuff away properly since my last outing, here you go! This is my kitchen all laid out in my basement: This is how much room is left in the box for dry-goods and non parishables: And this is how...

“One size fits all” stove/camp cooking setup?

I'm in 99.9% agreement with Neil D. ! The only point I disagree on is I carry Avacado oil instead of olive oil (I fill a lime shaped lime juice squirter with it, think about it, those things never leak!) ONLY because avacado oil can take much higher temps before burning. Camp cooking it's easy...

    Show me Springbar Tent pron!

Haha! A fair question to be sure, but I guess I'd have to point out that there are "fanatics" that think Kanye West is a musical genius, too. Fanatics are fanatics because they defy objectivity.:ylsmoke: Kodiak owners are pretty fanatical as well, but 3 of the 4 I looked at (including a new...

    Lurchy shift

Well, I wish you would've read the codes before you replaced the battery. Unhooking it reset it, so now the computer doesn't know what the problem is either. I'm still betting it's a sensor: Crank Position, cam angle, Throttle position most likely. Could be the MAP or MAF, since it's quitting...

    Round tubing frame trailer

It's more expensive and more difficult the join. You'd have to fishmouth all the joints to get a clean weld, as well as add a bunch of flat plates with gussets for all the attachment points. Square tubing or channel can be fit using all straight cuts, and it's already inherently flat where you...

    Lights or portable air

Hahaha! You should spend the money on a snickers first, you get angry when you're hungry:victory: Get air. Air will have immediate uses, a big honkin' flashlight will show you what you need to see until you cover your ride in LEDs.
