“Also random rant, what they charge for the extra zip on panels is ABSURD. Someone needs to put zippers that fit in a regular tarp and sell them for 1/4 what rhino rack wants for theirs.” Amen to that!

    GFC vs. Vagabond

I, too, would be interested in seeing a Drifter for an 8’ bed. If not, I see that Callen is back in business under new management with an informative website. Although rather heavy, you can’t beat a Callen for offroad toughness.

    Newbie looking for advice

Do you have an “old school” short bed...6.5’? You’re already buying a shell. Add a BedRug, easy on your knees and adds a small degree of insulation. When you travel with kids set up the tent/alcove facing the tailgate, kids in the covered truck bed, you and the wife in the tent. When you go solo...

    Rhino-Rack BatWing Review/Write Up

Agreed! I’ve since bought backup parts that I keep inside the attached stake/guyline bag. https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Rhino-Rack/RRCA1175.html Bought two kits with two hinges in each. I also have an ARB 2000 that is very sturdy but does not offer the coverage or convenience...

For a beginner, what should I build?

I’m going to stay out of the vehicle debate and comment on your description of the camping setup. You mention the Decked drawer/platform system and the AT Habitat, both excelllent choices. The Habitat uses a traditional style truck shell hatch that swings up. The Decked system is about 12” tall...

Dodge: 4th Gen Topper on 3rd Gen truck (Help wanted)

As long as your truck dimensions are slightly larger I would think you’d be fine. Easy enough to fill a small gap. Not easy trying to squeeze into a tighter spot, especially with bed flex.

    Compressor Duty Cycle Question

Same experience with the 400P, but I use it to pump up 4 LT tires to highway pressure...from ~ 25# to 60#. No problema. I bought it for the CFM rating, not the PSI rating regardless of the duty cycle.

Advice on purchasing a truck shell?

I’m a fan of camping/sleeping under a truck shell. Recently purchased a Leer 122 hi-rise for the Chevy longbed. Unimpressed. I had them delete the “bay” windows to prevent them breaking as the truck bed flexes offroad; kept the sliders from center to front of shell. When I park the truck in my...

    Rhino-Rack BatWing Review/Write Up

I had not seen that video (thanks for sharing) but it certainly addresses the Delrin hinge issue from their perspective. I want to be clear that I'm not criticizing the design of the Batwing...I've only used it once in the field and under a freak instance, at that. We had just stopped for the...

    Rhino-Rack BatWing Review/Write Up

In post #35 I mentioned that my Batwing had snapped two of the Delrin hinges after an unexpected strong gust (40+ mph) "origamied" my Batwing. Last week I was able to repair the awning with the two spare hinges Rhino Rack includes with the awning. Is it thoughtful on the part of the mfg. or an...

    Thoughts/Input on GM engines appreciated

2010 Suburban, 1500 4x4 Z71, 5.3l, 140,000 miles. Occasionally tow a horse trailer. Plenty of power and tow/haul helps out. We do trans service more frequently than called for and that helps. This has been a great vehicle for us and no plans to trade.

The Official Dometic CFX Fridge Feed!

theksmith: I have an ARB 50l that has the same cold/warm issues as you described, so I borrowed a method we use in our motorhome’s 3-way absorption fridge. A small battery powered fan bought from Camping World circulates air throughout the fridge helping to “even out” the temps. Camco and...

Congrats. Although I didn’t recommend the Frontier, I will agree with you that I really liked it’s overall ride characteristics best. I hope it works out for your needs and yes...post pics now and as you build it. ?

Not sure where to post this...SO! buying a new truck. Thoughts?

Get as much bed as possible...YMMV. Other than that, Tacoma is dependable but dated, but TRD Pro has all the goodies. Very little aftermarket for the Nissan. I lean towards the Colorado with the diesel.
