Acer, windows 7, looking for NA topo and back road maps/software. Help!

Probably the best you can do price/value wise is a copy of Delorme Topo. There are a lot of apps out there, but for US/Canada coverage, decent backroad coverage and not horrible on price, that would be my recommendation. Right now Topo is going for $99, but I frequently see it on sale for $70...

    Android Phones: Post here

Hope CM7 works well for you...I'm due for an upgrade soon and will likely retire my Atrix to be my work phone and get the S2 (I'm on ATT, we'll see how 2.3.4 works out of the box)...Post up an update here after you've used CM7 for awhile, might drive me to move over to it. Have you messed much...

    Fridge/Aux battery mounted on a skid ?

I have basically what you are talking about, except mounted to my trailer and designed to be rolled around camp: As was said already, the weight is a major factor. The setup itself works perfect and depending on your deep cycle, you can power your fridge for days. IF you have someone to...

What is your cell phones Internet speed?

You officially suck :) I haven't tested lately, but my Atrix 4G (yeah right) down here in Vancouver usually gets 1.5mbs...I can't wait for AT&T to start turning on their LTE here!

Good (Best) GPS App for Droid?

You can also use Mobile Atlas Creator to download maps on your computer, save to your phone and not have to deal w/the slow downloads directly in the program.

    Laptop Based GPS Software options?

I've seen TN but not used it myself. I've heard that it totally rocks, though! If I had it, I'd probably use it in place of my NatGeo TOPO maps (my understanding is it uses updated and higher-res USGS Quads). I'd likely still use Delorme Topo and Microsoft Mappoint (S&T), as I flip between...

Good (Best) GPS App for Droid?

Backcountry Navigator is generally the best-reviewed of the GPS/tracking/hiking app. The Samsung GPS units were notorious for being horrible, I think the Droid has a much better GPS unit, give it a try before you buy an external unit.

    Laptop Based GPS Software options?

I think thinking that the most important tool you can have in the backcountry is a great mapping package is showing questionable judgement :) Brain > Map & compass (& know how to use) > Great mapping package > crappy mapping package > nothing

    Android Phones: Post here

My Nook Color has the same problem - hypothetically, you can only sync/charge using their 'special' cable...and for some people their normal USB cables don't work. But for others, they've found cables that work - I was lucky and found that 2 of the 3 cables I got from Monoprice worked fine for...

    Android Phones: Post here

This is funny, not because of the pain for you, but I'm sitting here watching the Seahawks and the new Droid commercial is all about how you don't need any wires to 'instantly transfer from your computer to your phone over 4G LTE' or something like that...that must be a good thing if it requires...

Is there a better way to mount our roof boxes (Yakima, Thule Etc.)?

This is what I did with my Yakima box, with a 1" x1/8" flat bar inside to distribute the load. The bolts run through the flat bar, then the spacebooster, then the crossbar, and I use nylon wingnuts to secure it. I can have the box on/off in about a minute or two just by loosing the...

I have the Magma set (in 10pc) and I'm almost tempted to move it into the house and use it for my home stuff. Amazing quality and the finish is excellent. I think I paid $140 for my Magma set online at iMarine...looks like you can get the 7 piece set for $105 now...

Got 'em. Now I just need to figure out what to do with them!

Nice finds! I'm in the same boat (new license, looking for gear)...how did you confirm the units worked? Did you have the person you were buying them from hook them up and verify power on? How about Tx and Rx check? Just curious as I don't want to buy from CL and get home only to find out...

How can I charge my trailer battery, off of my vehicle battery charging system?

This should be great for charging a trailer battery no problemo. You should also run a separate 8ga ground wire as well, and fuse that. The trailer hitch itself doesn't act as a good ground conductor. The fuse on the ground is probably overkill, but it's only a couple bucks and the extra...

    Delorme InReach pricing announced

Yeah this seems like a pretty good idea...$25 to 'downgrade' might make it a pain if you are off/on...but if you need the extra plan features for one season, it's well worth it.

    Delorme InReach pricing announced

Delorme finally released prices for their different tiers of service for the InReach... http://blog.delorme.com/2011/09/19/delorme-inreach-details-and-test-run/ When I read that I thought 'Ouch!' then I did the math for my SPOT Connect: SPOT $99 annual $50 for the tracking/messages So...
