How to build a quality awning for less than $100

Ahhh, now I see what you meant :) Yeah, I've thought that would be a way to keep the costs down even more (a $7 tarp instead of $30). We have the same issue here in Washington, lots of overhanging branches, narrow trails, and potential for damage. It's one of the deciding factors of doing it...

How to build a quality awning for less than $100

I'd looked at the Mr Longarm too...couldn't find any at the local HD/Lowes in 4-8', just 3-6' which wasn't long enough for what I was planning. I LOVE your swingarm setup...I remember seeing that elsewhere on here (or maybe one of the Hummer forums?). Some serious ingenuity there!

How to build a quality awning for less than $100

Haha, that's great! My neighbor has been joking when he wins the lottery he's going to buy me a Sunsetter awning. I think the only thing wrong with those is the cost - some are more than the price of the awning itself!!

How to build a quality awning for less than $100

Thanks! Version 1 was horrible, version two was a failure, version 3 worked barely, and this is version 4. Versions 4.1 (addendum), 5 (rear), 6 (driver), and 7 (shower) will all hopefully be just as inexpensive, easy to build, and not-ghetto. When all is said and done, I expect to be in...

How to build a quality awning for less than $100

If you are willing to wait, I can guarantee I will have a solution so that an 8' awning fits nicely on your 6' rack, without looking like it's sticking out :) Here are two teasers: I heard quick fists were the bomb! Then I bought a couple and used them for a custom bike rack on my...

How to build a quality awning for less than $100

hmmm, a bag or other way to protect your cheap but quality awning from the elements? I might have an idea :) and it might cost somewhere around $30.05, be waterproof, and not look like you bought it off the shelf at Goodwill :)

How to build a quality awning for less than $100

Something like this? I've been there...and seen the light...and for very few more $$ and actually less time, I've upgraded. You can too...and that picture above gives you a small idea of what is to come :coffeedrink:

    Backcountry Navigator for Android

I used BCN on my hacked Nook Color. It works great, screen is large enough (7"), and doesn't seem 'laggy' at all. I also run a convertible tablet PC and my Atrix. One of the big things that's frustrating for me, especially on Android, is that I like to also use it for OBD diags, music, plus...

Quickie trip in Gifford Pinchot National Forest

Had to get away for the weekend, and Southwest didn't have any good deals, so I loaded up the truck and trailer and hit the road. My original plan was to explore some FS roads just south of Swift Resevior, but they were all closed due to active logging. It was getting late, so I just wandered...

Of course, in fact this SAVES you money since you don't have as much time to drink...I was too busy putting the awning together to properly focus on my beer drinking :)

How to build a quality awning for less than $100

ok, back to the write-up... Step 13 - Remove awning from truck Because you were an idiot and didn't drill all of the holes you need to pull this off. Of course, you can always skip steps 12 & 13 if you skipped steps 2, 6, & 11. Step 14 - Drill cross-brace holes On the EMT that will be...

    Blackberry Playbook 7" slate computer

It looks like BB and HP are both running the same path...to nowhere. I think we aren't that far from a 3OS market...iOS, Android, an WP7...and legitimately WP7 is currently on par (or maybe slightly ahead of) WebOS and RIM...but has massive capital and patience and can slowly build market...

How to build a quality awning for less than $100

I'm cheap and lazy, that means (in my own mind) I'm resourceful. Here's how to build a good-quality awning for less than $100. I was mostly drunk when I built this and it was dark so I forgot to take pictures. Keep in mind you'll need some simple/basic tools - hacksaw, screwdriver, beer...

Standing Tub for Camping hot shower?

Awesome idea!...was at Home Depot last night...you can get a basic plastic tray for <$10, plenty big enough to put in a platform to stand on and comes with a hose bib to run an outlet.

    Howling Moon and Bundu Boxes

Just stumbled on this thread...really like these as a less-expensive upgrade over my action packers. Quick question: Are these (or can they be made) waterproof? With living in the Pacific Northwest, that's pretty much a dealbreaker for me since I usually strap these to the roof or outside the...
