    Why not a Hummer?

Older (<96.5? w/o TD) go around$ 25k...newer can run up to$ 70k....I did a craigslist search and found some decent late 90's in the 30's and that seemed like a reasonable price. Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk

    Why not a Hummer?

I honestly didn't mean to take a stab at your jeep and i'm truly sorry if it came across that way. If the JK had been out when I was buying i'd likely be driving one right now :) My dream rig would be an H1 alpha wagon, just way outta my price range right now...of course i'd be happy with any...

    Why not a Hummer?

An H1 is 6-8" wider than your PowerWagon. They certainly aren't small :)

    Why not a Hummer?

Yes, the Hummer does use the same Inline 5 as the Colorado, and Hummer rims will fit on a Colorado (but not the stock tires, just the bolt patterns match). And they were built at the same plant in Shreveport. And I think you could even say it's somewhat of a rebadged Pontiac Solstice since...

    Why not a Hummer?

I would guess that was more driver error...I've had an H3 for 5-1/2 years and never had a problem with it, have driven it offroad + rock crawling + know quite a few other H3 owners that truly abuse their trucks. The only time I saw one 'get stuck' it had to be pulled out by an FJ40 (I...

SPOT Connect works with your smart phone

I used my new one last weekend for a camping trip out of cell range...tracked well, and I was able to use it as a standalone GPS for my iTouch too. Not sure it's better than the upcoming Delorme inTouch (i think that's the name)...but it's out now, works great, and I'm happy with it.

A mini laptop or Ipad as my trail GPS?

I use a netbook and delorme Topo 9, just as you've linked there. It works offline (the maps are stored on your computer), you just need to put the GPS receiver near a window so it can get a lock on the satellites. An iPad will be lighter and thinner than a netbook, but the quality of software...

Help picking a GPS capable phone

Most cell phone GPS units don't require cell service, however they will (sometimes) take longer to locate you since they are designed to use cell towers to triangulate your position to locate the satellites faster. They will lose signal faster than a standalone GPS (I can verify this through my...

    trailer build...

If that car were still around in that condition, it would probably be worth a lot more than $60k :)

The Suburban back end door debate

I did this on my Suburban. Survived a trip to Alaska, including the haul road, with no problems :)

    Warning about SPOT Connect.

Thanks! This is great to know! I'm planning on getting one of these in the next week, with a short backpack trip over Memorial Day weekend - I'd hate to find out the hard way like you!

    Is this possible??

There are a few solutions you could use. Here are my opinions, I currently use at various times windows (netbook convertible tablet and core i5 convertible tablet), iOS (itouch), android (atrix) , and blackberry (torch) platforms... Out of all of those, the best-supported is the windows...

DOG ramp, access, ladder, lift, up?

How about you put a second base where the dog lays down that's narrow but as deep as the dog space...put carpet on it, like a 2nd floor...then when he wanted to get in, you rest it against the rear bumper, he walks up the ramp and steps up to his space? Not sure the angle it would create, but...

DOG ramp, access, ladder, lift, up?

I'm in the same boat w/my 12yo Shephard, except he can't even jump in via the seats, just too much work for him. I have to pick him up (he loves that)... I carry a few larger towels in the back of the truck, specifically in case he's muddy/wet/covered in poop. I just wrap him up with the...

    Spotsmans Warehouse find.

Don't you hate when you think you found a wicked deal, buy the product, then go and brag about it only to find out you spent too much? I think that pretty much sums up my life :victory:

    Wiring connections...?

What everyone else said...I crimp, then heat shrink, then if it's external, I also wrap the whole thing in about 4 layers of electrical tape from 3-4" on each side of the connection. I do this to (1) slightly reduce the likelihood of water, and (2) slightly reduce the likelihood of it coming...

    CL Find: 1991 Diesel Suburban

No affiliation, etc. 6.2 conversion?? Looks like a great deal on a solid foundation (except it's 1/2 ton, but that's easily fixed) http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/2345872833.html

storing files in the Internet "cloud"

I use skydrive and the new amazon service (although I do not use their music storage because of privacy concerns). I use smugmug for photos and also run a dedicated server at home that feeds up my mussc collection via subsonic. My wife uses mobileme on her iphone. I've never used dropbox, but...
