Black Betty aka Mean Joe Green 98 Gen 2.5

I recently picked up "Betty" from @SONICMASD and now I am adding my touches to it. While I am waiting on parts to complete the heater core I finally decided to do a paint correction and ceramic coating on Mean Joe. This is just the first step and I will finish up the paint and coatings tomorrow.

Chinese manifolds not much of a bargain at $60

Let's hang! I am currently off the road for the next few days doing my heater core and cleaning up the rig while waiting for my new AC controller ( might as well replace it while dash is out ) I have been itching to get on the trails in the canyon the last few days.

Chinese manifolds not much of a bargain at $60

Yeah I figured the OEM one on Betty lasted 18 years and 200k and the $60 chinese one lasted 2 years and 17k.

Chinese manifolds not much of a bargain at $60

I think so too. I may look into other options when refreshing / rebuilding the 3.8 but that's down the road a bit.

Chinese manifolds not much of a bargain at $60

These were the made in China ones that Marco had on Betty. When I arrived to test drive her before the drive back to CO I heard the leak immediately. Should have investigated and negotiated but the leak went away when it got warm. I assumed a loose bolt or gasket as I really liked the rig. I am...

The horns can also fail in cold weather and will constantly go off. Just pull the fuse if it happens and then take a day to do the repair.

They are great rigs on and off road. Just make sure they are up to date on maintenance. Are you buying the white one from Jeep-n-Montero? If so that it a good one. The 2.5's have a few issues with heater cores failing, exhaust manifolds cracking and exhaust valve stem seals failing. All of which...

Chinese manifolds not much of a bargain at $60

Betty had an exhaust leak when I bought her that went away as the engine got hot. I was hoping it was just a loose nut or two and a simple fix. No such luck.... This is 2 years and 16k miles. OEM manifold will be here Monday so I can get her back on the road. Not cheap and I would rather have...

I ended up selling my beloved 94 LS to a good friend because I needed more power in Colorado. Was going to put 4.90s and swap the engine to a 3.5 but downsizing into condo life and no garage meant that was a dream and not reality. So I picked up Black Betty from @SONICMASD. I will be adding a...

SONICMASD's 98 Montero LS Build & Adventure Thread: Black Betty

Reporting in from CO. Betty did great on the trails in Sedona before we made the trek back to Colorado. The 4.90's really are a great improvement at altitude and long highway inclines. Cruise control never had an issue to keep here at 70. She even did great in the 60-80 mph winds and sandstorms...
