I have seen the MB hole plugs. I used black oxide stainless screws for mounting. Not visible or corrosion prone. http://www.fastener-express.com/pan-phillips-sheet-metal-screws-black-oxide.aspx I worry more about trapping moisture than water exposure.

My son just missed out on a ML320cdi. Picked up a super nice ML500 instead. The fuel economy of the diesel would have been nice, but having dad familiar with the m113 motor was a plus for him.

Of course, I do it routinely. No issues with my 175#s and work boots on. Fenders are super duty as well.

If I had to do it again, I would mount the net cup holder a couple of inches forward. If the passenger seat is way forward the cup holder interferes or is not useable.
