Search for "lightweight battery box" on ebay for bolt-on or weld-on frame boxes. Probably also a good idea to put a rubber or metal shield in front of the box (as on my truck) to block stuff thrown by the front tire.

I've got a 2001 diesel Express van, and diesels need two batteries. The factory location for the second battery is on the outside of the frame rail about 2 feet behind the driver's seat.

I think you need to check the dash data plate again. The M35a2 is a 2.5 ton cargo truck (deuce-and-a-half) from the '60s-'80s, and if it has drop sides, it is a M35a2C. They have multi-fuel engines and top speeds are about 50 mph. The M35A3 from the '90s has auto trans, Cat 3116 diesel...

Sorry for the late reply, but I've been on the road for a couple of weeks. I checked my truck and I can find no evidence of any bushings. The bed was mounted directly to the frame.

Great mods, PG! I checked under my M1031 and also found the aluminum bed mounts were torn. I guess metal fatigue with a less than ideal design is giving issues after 30 years. Thanks for the heads up.

Love that front receiver hitch, every truck should come with one standard. Makes launching a boat or moving a trailer child's play, and a cargo rack also is a great platform to work on the engine.

Mine is a Draw-Tite on a '96 F250, that also has tow rings at the ends of the crossbar, I think because I had to remove the tow hooks to install the hitch.
