Interesting hearsay. Toyota has published and not retracted the LC250 hybrid mileage estimate on its Canadian website, per Canadian govt. methodology. I too look forward to Toyota publishing LC250's EPA rating for the U.S.

To be clear, rear diff spec for the J250 hybrid in the US market have not been published. We do know that the non-hybrid Tacoma and J250 (non-hybrid, non-US market) will get 8.2; the Tacoma Trailhunter Hybrid, J252 and J300 get 9.5; Toyota upsized rear diffs on hybrid vs. gasser Tundras too...

False. Toyota's Canada website states that the 2.4L turbo hybrid Land Cruiser will achieve 27 mpg. That is a dramatic improvement in efficiency (and range) over the GX550 and any previous Land Cruiser offering in North America. Toyota's hybrid systems are extremely reliable and long-lived.

But Toyota is not Tesla; Toyota often errs by underestimating mileage, even relative to EPA. If they're saying 27 mpg combined, it'll likely be 27 mpg combined, if not better.

I'll comment: Finally. Dismal efficiency and range have for decades plagued Toyota's diesel-free North American Land Cruiser offerings.

Yeah, I agree. In fact, I expect that the 250 will eventually replace one of our 80s. It's a modern 80, or as close to it as we'll ever see. I lament the loss of a rigid front axle, but the electrified powertrain, with 27 mpg, more range per gallon, and a big battery for things like a fridge...

I don't think the GX550, 250 and 6th gen 4-Runner will be as similar as you imply, at least not dimensionally. I'll be surprised if 4-runner does not retain a 109.8" wheelbase. If anything, I expect shorter. I will be very surprised if Toyota gives 4-runner the 112" wheelbase shared among 250...
