    Lexus GX 460 & 470 owner's thread

They're tie down points for shipping. As AlwaysRoaming said you can get recovery points like these: https://www.treatyoakoffroad.com/product/gx460-5th-gen-4runner-recovery-point

The ubiquitous Baofeng UV-5r: First impressions

I find it worth having this type of cheap small handheld around, even when I have a mobile 2m installed in my truck. Can hand it to spotters, others in your group that don't have their own radio, or a group heading out on a hike. I found good performance improvements from a better antenna ()...

    Ditch light / antenna mount

Another option is a hood channel mount like this: https://www.gamiviti.com/antenna-brackets I've used them on my last 2 trucks, and been satisfied with the performance. I think the ground plane is somewhat better than the ditch light locatiuon ... but I'm no expert. Its worked fine for me for...

3rd Gen Tacoma for towing - manual vs. automatic?

Your comment made me think of the V8 dodge dakotas. I always thought those (and the durangos) were a good size, a little bigger than the very small 1st gen tacomas/frontier but not 1.2 ton size. I think the new tacoma is basically the size of the 1st gen Tundra. edit: Ugh I feel old - just...

After 8 years in a full size, moving back to a mid-size - Recommendations?

I'm pretty sure the Tacoma, 4runner and GX all have the same seating position issues. The GX might be a little easier to deal with because the seats are more adjustable. But for sure I don't find my GX as comfortable after long drives as my Tundra was. I'm excited for the new Land Cruiser...

After 8 years in a full size, moving back to a mid-size - Recommendations?

If you like the 4runner but want higher towing capability, maybe the Lexus GX460 is an option? They have the 4.6L V8 and 6 speed auto out of the Tundra, same size body as the 4Runner. New they're stupidly expensive but they depreciate more than the 4runners do, I bought a 2010 with 120k miles...

3rd Gen Tacoma for towing - manual vs. automatic?

I think a big limitation will be what options you can actually find in a manual equipped Tacoma. Even the dealers don't seem to be able to pick and choose their specific options combinations. Of the small QTY Toyota builds that are manual I wouldn't be surprised if they're pretty high spec...

Help me find this USB Port - My Google-**** is Weak

This is the closest I can find: https://billetautomotivebuttons.com/products/dual-usb-2-0-data-bulkhead-adapter-panel-mount-universal https://au.lightforce.com/en-us/products/universal-dual-usb-power-data-passthrough I think this is generally called a passthrough or bulkhead type connector...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

I'm not sure that's really true, I think they are competitive when they first release it, they just have such a long update cycle that they're woefully outdated when at the end of life cycle. I'm thinking of the 2nd gen Tundra - it was on par with other 1/2 ton trucks in 2007, its just that they...

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

I'm really skeptical of that 27 mpg number - I think someone in their marketing dept may have copy pasted a little too quickly from the Grand Highlander press release, which also claims 27 mpg hwy. I can't imagine the land cruiser with larger tires and worse aero getting the same mpg. They also...

Suspension for an overweight Tacoma (2nd gen)?

This - I had a FWC Hawk in a Tundra and felt even that platform needed suspension upgrades (Add a leaf, air bags and shocks and Load Range E tires) to feel like it carried the weight well. If I were set on a Tacoma i'd look at more minimalist campers like a Go Fast Camper.

    For packing clothing...

I have a 10+ year old version of that carry on patagonia bag and it works great for me up to about 4 day trips. Beyond that, or when kids are along, I have a couple of smaller (45L?) black hole duffels. I much prefer soft sided bags for clothing since they'll fit in more places in the vehicle.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

I bet there are a lot more enthusiasts that can afford a payment on a $50k land cruiser than a $90k land cruiser

The Toyota Land Cruiser Is Coming Back To America

I really like it, and I think they'll sell all they bring to the US. Cheaper than the GX, as much offroad content as most buyers will ever need, new hybrid drivetrain sounds like it will be a HUGE improvement in mpg over the outgoing 4runner/GX460. Many of us just have one vehicle for daily...

Plastic tote bins with vertical sides?

Frontrunner boxes come to mind, though i wouldn't call them cheap. https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/us/front-runner-wolf-pack.html We use these Uline storage bins at work, theyre cheaper per piece but i think have min qtys. I have seen some with lids, though maybe not anything that id...

CRT ( Core Removal Tool ) Tire Inflator

My guess was going to be Milton, they seem to make just about anything pneumatic valve related. https://www.miltonindustries.com/3-in-1-tire-valve-extractor-and-inflator-tool-remove-inflate-install-2502

New Tacoma vs Colorado vs Ranger

They're all based on the same architecture, that doesn't mean they share a frame. Probably some suspension parts are shared between the Tundra/LC300 and maybe trickle down to the new Tacoma. I did see in an interview that all but the lowest power versions get a version of the 9.5" rear axle, a...

    Just an old Scout II

Very nice! I've been picking away at a 1962 Scout 80 build forever, hoping it sees some of those same areas in the near future.
