Bonding Fairings & Rear Fenders to the Camper
So, my sweet heart was in town visiting me for a few days and she called me one evening while I was at the shop working away. She asked if I needed any help. I said sure (as I had been prepping all day in order to bond the fairings) and I asked her...
Pass Through Door Fabrication
While the camper was hovering, so the coating could dry, I had to find something else to do . A little pass through door fabrication should do the trick 🐒.
This is the first composite layup that I was able to complete, start to finish, in one long day. I...
Rigging the Camper - AGAIN 😁
Oh........., how naive I was to think that I would only have to rig the camper on/off a few times. One day I'll learn.
Getting the camper off of the truck and back on the stand, so: the cab side pass through flange could be coated and sealed to the truck, the...
Pass Through Items
Where does the time go? I can't believe my last build update was the end of May 🙃!
I hope everybody had a good 4th of July. I did a multi-day coastal backpacking trip in Olympic National Park with my sweetie and it was awesome. The long distance relationship thing gets me...
Hey rruff,
Thanks for your transparency in some of the structural and alignment elements on your build. The main thing I'm hearing is straight/flat panels from the get go. I can't stress this enough and I'll only speak from my own personal build, and build experience.
Composite work, DIY...
Looking tough out there in the South West rruff 💪😁!
I still love the sleek contoured lines on the front/top of your camper.
As far as underbody boxes, I guess it is really up to you/the builder. As long as you/someone is OK with all of their clearances, that is all that matters.
Since all...
(y)(y)!
Info for the next insane builder who is going to sand damn near the entire inside of their habitat box, including all those pesky radiused corners 😁.
That's great rruff! I'm glad you're up and running enough to be taking trips in it. Awesome and congrats on all your hard work thus far 😃!
Wishing you well in getting those underbody boxes dialed in and finished. Another project that can take some time. I still have a few CF pieces to fabricate...
Glad somebody can relate to the process and pain ;)!
It did take a ton of time to get all of the corners/radiused fillets transitioned into the walls-ever so smoothly. I had to make various length 7/16" diameter dowels and wrap them in adhesive-backed-sand paper as my sanding tool. Sanding...
Oh :poop: rruff; exhaustion is a great word to describe some of the detailed process/work I've been buried in. I'm still plugging away, inch by inch.
Once the composite and body work are 100% finished, it is going to feel like I'm on a vacation when completing the much smaller projects. Not to...
Thanks ITTOG. It was a slog 🙂.
I made two general commitments to myself when I had to move from a composite kit box to building one by hand on my own. 1. Make the entire habitat box/camper out of carbon fiber, including most of the interior and 2. Make sure the finish looks like it came out of...
Body/Fairing Work - Interior - Continued.... again!
I promise, this is the last interior body work post, EVER 🤪.
The cab over area. Nothing like sanding on your hands and knees all cramped up. It does a sweet little number on the lower back.
Head board cabinets. These things took the most...
Body/Fairing Work - Interior - Continued....
Let's move to the cabinets next.
I know most people don't want to see this many pictures of body work, but I have to show something for months of work. Plus, this is all I have to contribute to the build thread, so here we go....
Drivers side...
Body/Fairing Work - Interior
Where has everybody been??????
I'm feeling abandoned over here 😆!
You know......, you can't leave somebody on the Portal alone for too long while they are in the trenches of a comprehensive build. They may cross over to the dark side and never come back ;)😁...
