Good eye. I was at the massive grading project going on in Mint Canyon, between Sierra Highway and Whites Canyon.
That's exactly what I'm talking about in regards to handling. It's extra frustrating because that's the complete opposite of how my Duramax was, and not that I'm an advocate of...
So I finally got everything back together and driving again last weekend.
I'm not thrilled with how it handles, I think it's partly from the shocks and just from the massive amount of weight over the rear axle compared to my old truck. The steering rebuild was well worth it, however.
I...
They are indeed a GM part, they came out on the 2007+ z71 I believe. I had them on my Duramax, and bought them for this Burb until I realized the lack of bump stops lol.
Merchant Automotive has the most info and I believe are the ones who created the fix.
According to them, cases affected: GM transfer case(model 136, 146, 246, 261, 261HD, 263HD, 263XHD, 261XHD).
More info and a list of vehicles also here...
I'm not certain on every model of the transfer cases, but coming from the Diesel side and the ones available in those trucks, yes 2wd still rotates the input shaft and therefore the oil pump and creates this issue. Maybe the issue is more prevalent in the diesel side, because it's pretty common...
Didn't notice you had posted in my thread, I guess you can ignore my PM then :coffee:
When I got everything apart, it appeared that the PO had done a small front end refresh at some point, and the idler and pitman seemed newer and in decent condition. I hardly got a single pump of grease into...
Welp, that's certainly one of the oddest things I've come across... but it certainly appears that at some point the mounts were cleanly cut out of the truck. Still makes zero sense given everything else being stock, and no lift was ever on it because the factory cross member is still in place...
Factory upper/lower stops are welded to frame.
Again, this was a bone stock truck that was owned by a family with 6 young kids. I know any things possible but that just doesn't fit the bill for them to do, or for them to have bought it like that and returned to stock.
So I found this image of Boss324's 2500... but his is a 2003?
If you look closely, there are actually some differences: UCA pocket on the rear most bottom (Curve vs no curve), curved flange on the LCA rear pocket. Again, it just doesn't make sense someone would cut out the bracket on a stock...
Well that's extremely odd. Mind posting a picture?
No, it doesn't really look like it was cut off. I don't know why anyone would have, truck was bone stock.
Got a little more work in today.
Put some real tie rods in! And the Kryptonite idler pivot with weld in brace. I went with the XD series tie rods from Dmax Store, and they look great. I had their Kryptonite tie rods on my Duramax, but I felt like this was a suitable area to cut some costs by...
So little update, spent the whole 3 day weekend on it last weekend. Haven't spent any time this weekend, had some other life stuff going on. I'm not the best at taking pictures, but here's what I did get. Doesn't fully take it up to speed of where I'm actually at.
At this point;
Valve cover...
Okay, well I might have missed it then. Motor is still torn apart to the degree that pulling it back out for a quick check will take less than 5 min so I'll do that.
Question - right next to the oil pressure sensor is another sensor, I'm assuming a cam position sensor, held in with a single...
Hmm, thanks for the heads up. I didn't notice one when I had it out... but I didn't specifically look for it either. How deep in the hole would it have been? From my angle I was able to see about half an inch in, I just saw all threads.
After reading through some of your stuff I began to wonder if the synthetic was the issue at some point. I have to imagine it's a high probability.
I was planning on doing the main belt and AC belt, using the heavy duty green ones, but not the actual pulley or tensioner. I'll check them...
Thanks! I hope to bring the action quickly, as I need this thing up and running to go pick the boat up in Fresno and bring it home to get ready for 4th of July trip. Should be a good test run.
This 3 day weekend I plan to do the water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, valve cover gaskets, oil...
Those were some H2 rims with Chevy center caps. I went back and forth on liking/hating them. I've always liked the PY0 factory aluminum rims when you put 285s on them, but I've never run them. I'll keep them for a while as is until I make a decision.
Decent wear on the driver side...
Now onto the list of what the plan is. Stuff in green has been completed.
The plan right now is to get this thing as a solid and reliable tow rig for the summer season of boating.
Water pump
Thermostat
Fan Clutch
Oil Pressure Sender
Valve Cover gaskets (maybe)
Steering pump rebuild...
I jokingly called this a BroBurban and now the name is kind of growing with me.
I picked up this Suburban after sadly selling my Duramax truck. I put a lot of time into building the Duramax into what I wanted, and then due to financial reasons let it go. I then needed to replace it with...
Awesome! How do you like those fox shocks? I had the 5100s on my Duramax and wasn't sure I liked them. I don't have much to compare to though.
I didn't run the front sway bar, I liked the way it rode and handled with out it.
