Thanks for sharing and great work on the little x-trail there. I saw plenty of them in Japan and in Canada. It reminds me of the Jimny for some reason.
It's been a long time since I visited the UK (and never went off the pavement) so it's nice to see the country side.
Looking good man, gorgeous scenery up there. I want a cabin like that...sigh.
Haha the venerable angle brackets from home-depot...I use the same for my awning except I haven't used my awning much. When I have 1000lbs of other crap to carry it's the one thing I leave at home as being pure luxury.
Yes I needed the spacers for anything bigger than 245/75/16 because of the lower spring perch on the struts. If you follow the torque specs carefully the wheel spacers are fine (get the good quality ones).
My thoughts? I didn't like the look of the 235s nor did I see any appreciable/noticeable...
I don't think it's anything specific to the LR3/4. Most cars will continue to run, the defrost, wipers, a/c, headlights etc will consume the most amps and should be shut off- this is where the battery's reserve capacity comes into play. I once drove a 93 volvo home when it lost the alternator on...
Wow, that size looks really good like it was meant for it. Do you have some better pics from a bit further away?
I have a feeling though that you'll feel some difference in torque and acceleration especially if you drive with lots of gear/people.
You need both but in my experience I've used the sliders several times yet I still have the factory splash shield.
How much are the sliders vs. engine skid, again in my experience the sliders are more expensive so if you have $ to spend there I'd do that first.
Thanks guys. I can't take any credit for the cake, it was all the gf's idea and a surprise bday present. She lined up a specialty baking shop and provided them several pics from various angles. The level of detail on the cake was amazing, the cake weighed approx 15lbs! It hurt me to cut it...
Thanks guys. Answering a couple of questions I received here and on PM:
1. I have a Rola roof-rack, with the extension (sold separately).
2. Blake, sorry don't have any detailed pics but the lights are mounted to the bumper by drilling through the plastic bumper and the metal bumper under it...
A quick Big Bear trail run report.
The initial plan was to run Gold Mountain North to South in the muddy slippery conditions but the beginning part of the South end looked decent enough that we decided to run it in the 'normal' direction. As we started going up the trail it started getting more...
Fireworks and loud music is not my concern (certainly not that would require one to arm up) as is some psychopath or growers because you just happened to be miles away from help or on their turf - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meredith_Emerson
Many people don't carry and hope they never need...
Since I carry lighter bulky stuff (sleeping bags, pads, chairs, blankets) on the roof rack and these things are pretty constant from one trip to the other I used a bicycle hoist to store and load it on the truck.
The rest of the stuff is either permanently stored in the storage...
Great report. I read it back when it was first posted and again recently after reading the Dusy Ershim report.
Anyone done the Rubicon trail lately with 32" tires + rear locker? As 35"/37" tires have become pretty common these days the ruts they create out there make it harder for the 32/33"...
Get the Frontier you won't regret it over the R51 when it comes to offroading. If you really want an SUV I'd suggest looking at the LC100 or a 4th+ gen 4Runner instead. Heck I'd even consider a Tahoe/Sequoia if you need the room.
R51s can be built (if you already bought one for other reasons-...
Haha, mortonm funny you mention that...I was thinking about 255/85/16 and 285/75/16s the other day. The 285s look nicer IMHO but the 255s give that little more height. I started thinking of these sizes after reading the Damaged by the Dusy trail report. So I say go big or go home! :D
