There are companies out there that make racks designed to be used at the same time as a canopy/camper shell (Kargo Master for example) and I'm having one built by a fabricator in my area out of aluminum as I need the canopy for the secure vertical space it gives since I also have a short box.
I hate to be that guy but if it freezes into a sheet of ice and comes flying off while driving, it could get someone really badly hurt or even killed if it causes an accident. It only takes a few minutes to make sure that your rig won't pose a safety risk to other people on the road.
Thule is very widely distributed what with all of the different areas they can cater to (strollers, backpacks, car racks for bikes/skis/kayaks/cargo to name a few) so getting Tepui under their banner makes a fair bit of sense, especially given that Yakima has a roof top tent of their own to...
There's definitely some scary folk out there. Funny how both sides of the coin can often lead back to land access issues, one side claiming it should only belong to them while the other claims it should be for everyone... Gets tiresome after a while, especially when there's so many people out...
There was another guy who claimed he was a victim of trail sabotage in Alberta but there were tons of holes in his story. It wound up being investigated by the RCMP and last I heard, he'd fled Canada before his trial date (link)
I separate food that doesn't need to be kept cool and use the left over space in my kitchen kit box. I got the action packer bigger than what I need for just dishes/cookware so that I'd have room to do that since they work pretty well for keeping weather/animals out.
What I try to do with every trip is take stock of what I want and compare it to what I actually need for the type of trips I do. My setup will most likely vary from your setup (depending on length of trip, how remote you go, how many people, etc.) but I am still fairly stock apart from a topper...
Threatening to charge a restocking fee for something not even done yet is such a load of crap, especially after weeks of no communication. If it were me, I wouldn't wait at all to start the charge back process.
Not trying to hijack the thread, but does anyone have any recommendations for a 2 watt mobile GMRS setup? Up here in Canuckistan we are limited to 2 watts of power and all of the mobile GMRS radios I can seem to find are either 5 or 15 watts. Ideally, I'd like a vehicle mounted radio with some...
That looks pretty decent. I've been using an action packer for my chuck box for the past few years. I can fit all of my dishes, cookware, and stove with room left over for dry/non refrigerated foods. Only thing I don't like is the angled sides waste a little space, but se la vie.
Awesome job on the cleanup! Whenever I camp somewhere, I always make sure to pack out more garbage than I came in with. It pisses me right off just how disrespectful others can be towards other users, let alone towards nature itself.
If you have an awning, pointing the lights up towards it will help diffuse the light around the area and keep it out of your eyes. It can also help the light feel warmer, depending on the base color of the lights/awning.
That is an awesome rig! I'm in a SAR group in my area and a lot of the plans for mods to my truck revolve around making it more capable for SAR missions, so it's cool to see your setup. Gives me a lot of ideas for mine, haha.
