Well, we had our maiden voyage to Usal Beach in way up Nor Cal and the rig performed flawlessly! All my mods worked exceptionally well and it’s safe to say I wouldn’t have done anything different.
I do need to build a 2” drop tounge as the trailer is still to high even for my lifted Tundra...
This weekend I made some brackets to hang my four floods, two on each side, on separate switched circuits.
I also picked up a Basecamp stove and made up a base for it. Works great!
My wife snuck out and caught me in action
Smitty sold me an updated galley drawer, but sent me complimentary updated nylon straps for my tent as the originals were sun damaged. The experience was good. The rep was nice. I should probably pursue the reinforcement brackets at some point.
I finished something fun tonight. Something for...
I went through this as well. I have the ability and the tools to fabricate, but not the time unless I want it to take two years. The final straw was when I found a pre-owned Scout with tent and awning for less than the trailer new. I was sold.
I did some more work on my Scout this weekend. It was really nice to work in the garage until 3:00 am without wives or kids nagging me! Haven’t done that in years!
105Ah FLA battery added
Load side wiring and switch panel wired

Thanks @jojackc! It’s been a fun and needed winter project. I mounted my components to wood simply so I only have four bolts through the tongue box for each piece rather than for every component and it also provides a substrate to screw cable ties, etc. IDF/switch rooms in commercial buildings...
I was in Batteries + to get my iPhone battery replaced today so I picked up one of these. https://www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/sli31mdc
Thanks guys!
Okay guys, I'm all set with a NOCO genius onboard charger. I like the Victron linked by @dreadlocks but I got the NOCO for $89 on sale so I went with it. Now I just need to select a good battery in the 100ah range. Do you guys have any recommendations? I was eyeballing this Renogy battery...
The first mod to my Scout was to weld up a rack extension to support the front overhang of the XL tent.
I started work on the 12v electrical system today and received my Rtic 110 cooler. No battery yet (going with Renogy 100Ah), but I installed a NOCO 10A charger with port, main fuse...
Thanks @Silverback07 Yes, I'm very pleased and my wife is absolutely stoked! The seller (on this forum) was fantastic to work with.
I've got an email out to Smittybilt to procure a new style stove drawer, and I've already pulled the tent and rack off to fabricate an extension to support the...
I picked up a pre-owned Smitty last Friday. Been looking for the last three months and have read every post in this thread twice lol. Some great ideas here guys and I will be copying some of them.
@dreadlocks any recommendation on an onboard charger? This is pretty much exactly what I’m looking for now that I’ve decided that charging from the vehicle isn’t worth the effort.
Thanks
I just posted the same question this morning.

You guys are right, charging from the tow vehicle alternator (via isolator and dedicated cable) is overkill for my needs.
Perhaps I’ll prioritize the solar option and simply plug into a battery tender when stored in the garage.
We’re talking weekend trips here so my #1 priority is being able...
Hi guys,
I want to install a single AGM battery in my Smitty Scout trailer to run 12V lights, USB ports, and a water pump. I don't need 110VAC, but I would like the ability to charge the battery via shore power at camp or in the garage when stored. I would also like the ability to add a solar...
