I own a D2. That D2 is an abomination. What the hell is that thing bolted to the bonnet?:Wow1:
Go the D1 if it's as good as it looks. Remember to drive it before you modify it at all. Seriously drive it. It is probably all you'll ever need for 99.9% of off roading anyway. And you won't look...
They're not outlawing all bullbars, just those with a downwards facing front that force anything hit (like a pedestrian) down and under the car Eg
And sorry for the hijack. More off road race shots please pappawheely :)
We're not so lucky in Oz. Bead locks have been illegal for years here. Tyres can't be outside your wheel arches and total lift of vehicle including increased tyre size and suspension lift can't be over 75 mm unless you get it engineered. Track of your vehicle cannot be increased by more than 25...
ROFL. This build makes you want to have your own way with yourself?!? :D
Great build by the way Err. Love the 4x4 van area of the market. There just isn't enough choice though!
Similar thing has happened to me recovering a number of unprepared vehicles (and owners) over the years. I've had a mug drive over my snatch strap and destroy it by tangling it around his axles! Another wrecked my winch cable too by going around a tree and hooking back to the cable with no tree...
RickM, diesel D2's are common as muck in Australia. We really are the lucky country :). You can pick up an early one for around $4-5k. A good one might sting you around $10 and sometimes later models (2004) still get around $20. These are AUD prices though so divide by 100 for American $ :D
I've carried one off and on for 20 years in my 4wds. Never used it in anger. Not once. I prefer the tirfor for winching. It has saved my bacon a number of times. Now the Hi - lift sits in the shed in it's bag, waiting for stuck star pickets :)
Reliability is a question of proper maintenance IMHO. My 2000 Td5 D2 has never broken down in 6 years of ownership. Neither did my 2004 td5 110 before it. But they are properly maintained. I would drive them anywhere remotely without a second thought. Also my D2 is the comfiest car I've ever...
They're great. Join a rover specific forum and male sure it's maintained appropriately. We have www.aulro.com in Australia and it's the best. Plenty of advice on rangie's and all other rovers to boot.
Buy the td5 instead:sombrero:. Comparable power when chipped with a VNT and intercooler etc. And not a slipped liner to be seen :victory:
It's what I did. Now to save up for that VNT and convince the wife it's necessary...
