Paging T.Low...
They were built as AWD but a transfer case swap will get you low range:

I'll let Tom and others fill in the details as they know more than I.

Love the concept. A few details I'd change from this image (not saying it's wrong as is, just a different idea...). I'd prefer no side doors on the drivers side, just one window behind the driver. On the other side, I'd take two doors and no window on the rear panel. Oh, and a CCV poptop. And in...
Nice to see a photo taken in WA state with the sun out! Looks like you had a great trip. I've eaten lunch at that spot below Dry Falls a couple of times. Awesome rock walls around it. I'm dying to get out and head east over the mountains for some dry weather. Just need to scrape up a $150 for a...
Wow, the van is looking a little overwhelmed with your toys! Lol!... I think maybe an airport shuttle van might be big enough for you and the family and all the toys you love to take to play with! :wavey:
I had a similar sounding problem on a Datsun pickup years ago. I finally figured out it was a bulge in a tire sidewall that only showed up when the tire was heated up. The bulge was on the backside (inside) sidewall of the tire on the rear of the truck. I only found it because after stopping to...
Very nice job on the vents! Do you know how long and tall they are? I have looked online for fender vents and I like the look of these from Street Scene, but I'm not sure they'll fit the vertical radius of the fender.

I did a quick Photoshop job...
Sorry, can't help with a space for you to work, but if you do the swap, please take lots of photos. I have always wondered how the camper was attached to the Astro frame. Since an Astro is unibody from the middle back, I'm curious how the camper is attached? Good luck with the project.
"At the RV store they have a roll of adhesive, like putty. I can't remember the name"
Butyl putty tape. Great stuff. Stays soft and seals up windows and vents really well.
If you don't mind me asking, did you start with a top from a "conversion van" like this?:

I have thought that finding an AWD van with a top like this on it already would save money. If you can convert the top to a pop top, and convert the AWD to 4x4, you're set...
"Edmonton/Prince George/Williams Lake/Whistler/Victoria/Tofino/Vancouver/Banff/Calgary/Edmonton"
Wow. I hate you... OK, not really... I could spend months on that route!
I just LOVE that country and even though I am reasonably close I have not had time to get up there in waaaay too long...
No need for the flame suit. Your post might be the most rational of all in this thread. Your expression of how hard it is for a company to keep things on the straight and narrow and not have one event give them a black eye for years (with posts on the 'net that won't die) is right on and...
Columbia Gorge twilight and ghost tree
Here's a photo of my favorite camp spot along the Columbia River, taken a couple days after I departed the recent NW Expo Rally. Obviously the famous Columbia Gorge wind was in effect, as the tree branches were moving around a great deal...
Was that you at the intersection of WA Hwy 14 and Hwy 197 last weekend? (Last Saturday or Sunday, I don't recall for sure) I was headed west on Hwy 14 in a tan SMB and you were turning east onto 14 from 197. I saw you at the last second and didn't have time to grab my P&S camera. I was hoping to...
