I balance a semi pro DSLR with a range of lenses and a phone camera. In fact I've been known to put down the SLR and grab the phone as it is quicker than switching to a wide angle lens. I also have a waterproof case for the phone. Unless you are printing big most people can't tell which...
The issue with any tyre change is re-inflating. You will need a good compressor or an air tank. I have changed normal rims without any special tyre levers, breaking the bead with a hi-lift jack.
Spotted this looking through my local adds http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/mercedes-benz-g-class-500-5dr-auto-station-wagon-private-plate-v8-gwa-25990/1022410144#photo-content
No connection, but thought it looked so nice and if I didn't have my Pinzgauer I could have been...
As a Pinzgauer owner I would say that part of the vehicle's appeal is its centre tube chassis, internal drive shaft, independent suspension, portal axles and diff locks. The body is the easy bit!! Making a vehicle that looked like a Pinzgauer might be fairly easy. Would that vehicle perform...
here in the UK where these are fairly cheap it might make a possible base vehicle. Having spoken to those who used them in-service and read the reports concerning the brake issues I would avoid them, especially if there are additional costs associated with import to USA. I would have thought...
Karma, I think there may be a flaw with your plan, and it is simply that survival is not about planning, but preparing. You do not plan to be in a survival situation, however you can prepare. You are well prepared for 3 days with an immobilized vehicle. Are you prepared for any other...
RMP&O "Yup saw the Pinz in Thor too. It is a diesel and not the older style we see a lot of in the USA"
Sorry, the Pinz or really should say Pinzgauers, as several were built to look identical, in Thor were old petrol aircooled trucks with the newer front grill cover from a diesel truck added...
For an under dash electrical fire a gas type 'Halon' replacement fire extinguisher would probably do and has the advantage of not damaging the vehicle much.
The only thing to knock down a fuel fire fast is Dry Powder extinguisher, the disadvantage is it can re-ignite which is where foam is...
I have really enjoyed reading this thread and so will now add my own armchair observations ;)
Is dealer support really an issue? I would look for a vehicle that anyone with mechanical knowledge can work on and only worry about parts supply! I was really surprised when I read one post saying...
Was up to Speyside last week, lovely weather, its one of my favorite parts of the world. Last Summer I canoed the whole river from Loch Insh to Spey Bay
I wasn't really suggesting a Pinzgauer as its much smaller than what you have in mind, but its the same size base vehicle just without the big box.
Steyr will supply parts worldwide for Pinzgauer so it fits the bill for worldwide travel + petrol ones are easy field repair unlike anything modern!!
I know you say you want to keep good approach and departure angles but if your wheelbase is massive you will have such poor break over angle you'll get stuck on a humpbacked bridge :)
The problem I see with the box on chassis is that floor level is already above the rear wheel height so to get...
Let me guess, you need the functionality of the macbook but like the form factor of the iPad! Me too! But until the iPad has more function its not up to meeting the needs of 'most' computer users. If space isn't really at a premium you might as well get a Macbook not even the 'air' model.
Same source you could get your camper box http://www.mod-sales.com/direct/vehicle/,36,/25442/Demountable__Box_.htm and mount it straight on. OK you would not have standing room but I guess it depends what you want!
Funny how everyone is using the term "slow lane" and "fast lane" people here do use those terms, but its an indication they don't know how to drive properly as the lanes are overtaking lanes. In the UK we drive on the left so on a multi lane motorway you would normally drive on the left using...
