I got it on the side, but with the Xterra, it's a hatchback, so I can take shelter under the hatch and the tent, and the rear door that's accessible from under the tent in poor weather.
I made a, well, I'm not sure what I would call it, a rack or a basket? I still need to get some proper straps on it, but it does the job. It also pivots at the rear so I can easily install and remove the tank by myself.
I always want to think you have too much. Is there a need to monitor the battery in your tent? Do you draw that much power to drain it overnight? I do the same thing. I have (2) 12v outlets on my (regular car) battery in the trailer, and run an extension to the tent with a 3x 12v outlet box. One...
Ya, I agree with Martinjmpr. Pick up trucks are more expensive because they're just that, pick up trucks. It's a different market with a different use, and technically has much more function over an SUV thanks to it's bed, and thus holds it's value
The Xterra, while truck based, gets classified...
I've done the RTI test with mine and the rotation of a 2" ball is actually quite impressive.
The issues would be the breakover angle of the coupler
It probably comes down to the type of terrain you encounter, but a 2" ball works surprisingly quite well.
I've started to work on it 2 years ago, and there's still much tweaking to do, but to give you an idea on what we've done and where we're at...
I got a Martin portable on-demand hot water heater. Part of me wishes I would of went with the L5 for the sole fact of being able to get a pelican can...
I guess it depends. This summer it had a party at a friends house. Me and the girlfriend brought the trailer and slept in the RTT, while her sister and boyfriend slept in a ground tent. They ran an extension with a ceramic heater in their tent, and he even had a toque on. Us, while we use just...
I have a Matin on-demand propane hot water heater. I can't seem t find it anywhere else, but seems to only be found in Canada. It works great, but the problem I have is that I'm jealous of the EcoTemp L5 users who can put it in a Pelican case outside of their trailers. I`d like to be able to...
I've gotten 18mpg on my S/C at best, and I've done it both empty, and also full with an RTT, go figure...I guess it's enough of a brick that it doesn't matter, but she's getting old, I don't come close to that mileage anymore no matter what I do
I'm running catless (using CEL eliminators) and Doug Thorley headers with a 2.5" exhaust. Intake is a Volant. If you want better mileage too, tires and weight. I found out late last few with my mods, I'm 500lbs over the GVWR with my and my tools in the truck. It's then I realised that it's easy...
I was getting tired of using flashlights, cell phone lights and my Dewalt 18v light where you never know when it's going to die, and decided to integrate LED's into the tent. At first I used the tape on the backside of the LED strips it proved that that adhesive doesn't last. This is where I...
The trooper was also badged as a Honda Passport.
I'd put the R50 Pathfinder as something similar to the Trooper in style comfort. It's unibody, but still pretty solid and still very capable off-road. It's coil spring suspension is better for longer travel suspension as opposed to the WD21 and...
I guess it depends and I've been through it all. At first, on the truck, I installed it per-use and removed after. This was ok when I had my dad to help me. When I got in the army, and being shoved around bases for the first 2 years, I installed it pretty much for the season and stored it back...
I think the issue of "overbuilding" is that I would say that the large majority of us are just amateur fabricators, and probably most are just afraid to underbuild. We're not engineers, we don't know the structural limits of the material, and say, even the confidence in our welds, and would...
And Happy 2017 To All! And a few updates to be had. Some truck, some life, some car and some trailer, but all automotive related ;)

While it is trailer related in a sence, for the haunted house that I work on, we had decided to enter the local Christmas parade using the theme that we (my...
