Nice, well done! Please share pictures of your solar panel setup. Like to see that. Also, what trailer is this? A HQ15? Thanks!

Your setup looks great! Where were those pictures of you camping taken? I see you got the high quality Harbor Freight bucket to go with the HQ12 :) Now, let the modding begin.... Post your experiences here, that'll be cool.

Black Series HQ - Any Reviews?

Hi, sorry, that Jeep Gladiator wasn't mine. It was Shane's from RVsofA. I have no idea what gas mileage he got.

This is the standard way any trailer battery gets charged. Yes, you can drain your car battery if your trailer battery is dead. So don't leave it connected if your car or truck isn't running.

Ok, next super simple mod. By default your tow vehicle will not charge your Black Series trailer batteries, as the 12V line that would do that is disconnected. But that is really simple to fix. Just open the power distribution box next to the handbrake, and you'll see a spare black wire, with...

Really nice. The video looks a lot like the landscape you can find here in Colorado, with the pine trees. I looked on Google briefly, didn't see many roads or trails go through there? I showed some pictures earlier in this thread, here...

That is a super cool video! Well done! You didn't get stuck in that nasty looking black mud? Very impressive. Where was this filmed?

You are right, it was a typo. It is the CFF35 from Dometic. Fixed that in the orginal post. Thanks! If you look closely at the pictures, I used right angle brackets on the left side to prevent the fridge from bouncing up, and on the right side I attached the same brackets to the floor to keep it...

The reason I didnt do that is because my whole underside has the winter package from RVoA, meaning it is all insulation foam. The thermostat is in the wall, above the furnace. The furnace is under the bed. There is an access panel under the mattress so you can get to about 2/3rds of the furnace...

Same size, I didn't really see the need to go bigger.

Black Series HQ Tips, Tricks, and Learning.....

Hi Bikepals, I don't believe that is quite correct. The maximum number of panels a solar controller can handle needs to be computed by looking at its Voc, or maximum voltage out of the panel when there's no load connected to the panel. That is typically around 20V (but can be much higher...

Yup, Michael at RVs of America did those. The bottom display is for the MPPT solar controller, shows me all kinds of stats of the panels and the controller. Then the four switches above it are to turn the tank heater pads on or off. One for each tank. Agreed, it is fun to see what everyone...

The thermostat is not in the best place. It is right above the heater, and that results in either you having to set the thermostat to its highest setting, and that might not be enough, and/or the thermostat frequently cycling the heater on and off. Which is not efficient in actually heating up...

Black Series HQ - Any Reviews?

There is a lot more storage, and more space overall in the HQ15. It is also way warmer than the HQ12, when you pop open the roof on the HQ12. The good thing about that pop up roof is if you're taller than 6'1". You'll be able to stand in it. As for the fridge, it draws peak 4.5 amps, so...

There's a frame member right next to the wheel well. See picture where we had to change the a tire "in the field" offroading near Moab. That spot worked OK.

Hi! Here's the video of the hi-lift mode that Michael at RVsofA put on for us Here's the video of the receiver hitch mod. Tires, I upgraded to BF Goodrich KO2s, I tow it with a Toyota Tundra. I did add airbags to the Tundra, to keep the ride level. Don't have a generator. Hope that helps!

Ok, here's the next mod. I was looking for a place to hang four Maxtrax boards. With my HQ15 i dont have the room on the back, as the two jerry can holders and high jack lift are in the way. But turns out, they fit perfectly on the side. Take the slider off, weld a simple frame, and voila. I...
